Panther II
( Prototype)
In late 1942 German deesigners started working on the development of a more powerful and larger version of Panther on a newly designed chassis. Because of urgent need on the eastern front Adolf Hitler ordered the development of a new Panther with increased armor protection and firepower. This Project was called Panther II and it was planned along with development of TigerII. both projects would have many common parts in attempt to simplify the production and mainenance. Hull was very similar to Panther Ausf G but with many modernizations, such as , the arrangement of observation equippment and new engine deck and ... Its armor was significantly increased . side armor was 60mm thick and frontal armor was 100mm thick.  It was planned to arm Panther II with the latest 75mm KwK45 L/100 or even 88mm KwK 43 L/71. It was believed that PantherII's performance would be similar to Panther Ausf G, but because of its heavy weight and high fuel sonsumption which made it extremely slow it would suffer the same problems of Tiger II.
In early 1944 MAN ( Maschinenfabrik Ausburg_ Nuremburg) was allowed to produce 2 prototypes , but overall war situation and shortages delayed the production. In early 1945 MAN managed to produce a single prototype. Soon the project was abandoned in favor of further development of Panther Ausf G/F based on lessons learned from Panther II.
