Title: Spring Fashions Author: Vanessa (torresvenessa@yahoo.com) Pairing: CJ/Toby Spoilers: "In This White House" and "20 Hours in L.A." Rating: G Disclaimer: If I owned these characters I wouldn't be struggling right now trying to figure out how I am going to pay tuition in the fall. Notes: This is my second completed fic. . . It's not the long one I'm working on but a little something to get out there. Oh, and Donna has been flown to GW from the hospital she was staying at in Germany. "They can get generic from Pakistan for 40 cents." "That's not the only bargain in Pakistan Toby. My girlfriends and I go for the spring fashions." "It shows." "He just made a little dig about my clothes and that's what's going to be with me for the rest of the day." I couldn't help but think that was the most Toby had ever said about my clothes without my prompting . . . "Look at this house." "Yeah." "I mean, look at this house." "It's a nice house." "You know" "What?" "You haven't said anything about my dress." "You look very nice." "You're not even looking." "I'm looking at the house." I couldn't help but think that was the most Toby had ever said about my clothes without my prompting until tonight. Tonight's comment was different. "Hey," he said walking into my office. "Hi Toby." "What are you doing?" "This is called packing, I'm packing my things to leave for the night." "This is early for you." "Yeah, I'm going to visit Donna, I wanted to make sure I saw her tonight since she just got back." "You know parking at GW is horrible." "Thanks for the tip Toby but I do remember from when the President and Josh were there." "I was going to go too, why don't I take you, that way we only have to find parking for one car." "Thanks Toby but I wanted to stop off at home, change and pick up a few things I got for Donna." "That's fine, I'm just finishing up some work so I can be at your place to pick you up in 45 minutes." "Okay Toby, see you then," I said walking out of my office for the night. When I got to my apartment, I went straight into my bedroom to change out of my work clothes. My feet were aching from the new heels I had worn to work that day. While putting my shoes away in my closet, I decided there was no way I could possibly wear actual shoes for the rest of the evening, deciding that I would wear a pair of cute, sensible, black flip-flops. Hanging up my suit, I saw a jean skirt I bought a few months back because it was a "must have" for the spring fashion. It still had the price tag on it because I hadn't been anywhere all spring where I didn't need to be wearing a suit. Looking at the time and realizing that Toby would be by any minute, I pulled on a plain black GAP t-shirt from my dresser. I grabbed the things I got for Donna and my purse just in time to see Toby pull into a spot in front of my building. I locked up and went outside to see him standing by the passenger door, holding it open for me. "You look great," he said, closing the door after I got into the car. I couldn't help but think that was the most Toby had ever said about my clothes without my prompting. I had been so shocked by his words that I hadn't even been able to murmur `thank you' or anything else that would have been appropriate. I hadn't even consciously tried to look nice tonight, but he had commented on my spring fashions before, tonight's comment seemed different though.
