Toy (Tinytoy, Teacup) ~ Miniature ~ Standard (Royal)

Buyers should always find out about all matters relating to AKC registration, and health quality before making any decision to buy a puppy.

As Potential buyers, you must use your own judgment as to the reliability the of breeders you are dealing with.

The list of breeders is obtained from PoodleHeads List, search engines, magazines, names sent to me and many other sources they are not to be taken as a recommendation. I do not know all of these breeders personally. So, again please be sure to do your research into the breeder you choose.

Follow these links to get a copy of the questions you should ask a breeder before buying a Toy, Standard, or Miniature poodle. These questionnaires by VIP can be very helpful in finding a responsible breeder and knowing the right questions to ask.

Poodles come in three sizes:
Toy: Of the three varieties, the Toy is the smallest. It is popular with apartment owners, retired people who enjoy traveling with their pet and those who prefer a very small dog. By definition, the Toy Poodle should not be taller than 10" at the shoulder.
Miniature: is the medium size variety. Ideally not taller than 15" at the shoulder, this sturdy size is small enough to suit apartment living and large enough to be a rough and tumble child's companion.
Standard: has no upper height restriction although the majority are usually between 21" and 26" at the shoulder, with females leaning towards the lower end of the range. The Standard, originally a water retriever, is now enjoying a myriad of roles; hospital therapy dog, hunting dog and loyal companion. He is ideal for those individuals who prefer a larger dog.

You will also hear these sizes mentioned but they are not recognized by the AKC.
Teacup, Tiny Toy and Pocket Poodle - Teacup is a term breeders use to describe very small poodles, which usually weigh under four pounds. American Kennel Club recognize Standard, Miniature, and Toy Poodle sizes only. Any other size description is strictly breeder terminology. Teacups average from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds when full grown.
Royal Standard Poodle - The term is used to imply that your puppy will grow extra large. A normal Standard Poodle will measure over 15 inches tall at the shoulder and the average is around 24 inches for females and 25 to 26 inches for males.
