As I watch them bleed
I want to beg and plead
For you to come down
“Come down,
And you’ll be king.”
I hear them say
Falling at your cross
I count my loss
Falling to my knees
I hug your tree
And beg you to come down
Come down
Down to me
Looking through my tears
As I watch you forgive
I want to beg and plead
For you to forgive me
“Today
You’ll be with me.”
I hear you say
Falling at your cross
I count my loss
Falling to my knees
I hug your tree
And beg you to come down
Come down
Down to me
Kneeling at your presence
As I watch you take your last breath
I want to beg and plead
For you to stay with me
“Fear not my child,
I have conquered the grave.”
I hear you say
As I walk to your tomb
On the third day
I see your stone
Has been rolled away
Falling on my face
I weep and pray
“Someone took my
Savior away.”
I feel a hand on my shoulder
And turn to tell the stranger
But instead I see your smiling face
“Death has no hold on me child,
Dry your face.”
You tell me you have to leave this place
But you will come again some day
You say you’re going to prepare for me a place
As you wipe a tear from my face
“I don’t want you to go!”
Is all I can manage to say
“I don’t have to leave, as I have for you,
Prepare for me a place and I’ll stay.”
You say as you point to your heart
“Lastly, I command you, my child, to
Carry my good news to the four corners
Of this earth. I died for all man’s sin,
Tell them they need only invite me
And I’ll come in and sup with them.”
You say with a grin
I watch you ascend as I
Stand and stretch my neck to
Keep you in view
Then quickly hit my knees, again,
To receive you as my Savior
…my friend
Staring at your cross
I know you have not lost
Standing from my knees
I know you are with me
And I’m the reason you didn’t
Come down
Down to me
