A - Kai established the WWFF in the mid-90's, and it's one of the longest-running fanfic boards on the internet.
A few years ago, Kai found herself too busy to run the board. She allowed a girl named Candledark to moderate the board for her.
Candledark's management style was, to say the least, very brash and harsh. Her style was effective, and she managed to keep the peace for a few years. Eventually, when she couldn't handle a group of posters trolling the board, she declared that the WWFF was under martial law and posters would have to "battle" to earn her approval to move on to her newer, moderated version of the board.
Within a few months of Candle's declaration, Kai decided to return the board to its former state. We've resurrected it and are committed to making it the board it was in its heyday!
A - On the main board, no off-topic posting. This means only stories and replies to stories are allowed. On all boards, No spamming. No abusive behavior. No plagiarizing.
A - One of the simplest and most important rules of posting on a fanfiction board is: Mark and label each part of your story! How do you do it? Easy; if you've written a story with no violence, sexual content or language, it's rated "G". The ratings escalate as they would movie ratings, you see. If you write a simple, explicit sex story that ends with someone being vivisected, that takes you all the way to Nc-17. It might be a good idea to also tell people why each parts are rated this way.
A - No; depending on your infraction, we'll either delete your post or move it to its appropriate board.
A - Okay, don't panic! First off, depends on what rule. If you posted off-topic, we'll remove your post and move it to either one of the other boards, depending on the content. And we'll email you to let you know. (If you leave an email addy, that is!) If you're abusive towards another poster or are plagiarizing, it's more serious. Those will be dealt with on a case by case basis. If you're spamming, it gets deleted.
A - Well, allow us to introduce ourselves! We have Missy, a talented writer and co-mod of the WWFF's sister site, BCE. There's graphics goddess and writer Mynx. Alison is a writer and Olympic-class lurker, up until now! ;) Our backups are Jenni W, a writer and co-mod of LWS, and Cheshyre, writer and all-around wonderful gal. And last but certainly not least, there's the WWFF's momma, Kai. She created this board originally and is widely known for being a great writer and lovely lady. So, that's us in a nutshell!
A - Kai and Missy met through the WWFSML slash mailing list. After exchanging emails numerous times, Kai mentioned that the WWFF was in a state of disrepair and needed guidance. Missy suggested that she would help out in any way she could. They eventually agreed that Missy would moderate the board. They were both aware that this isn't a one-woman job; Kai recalled that Mynx had asked Candle for permission to moderate the board and was denied. Missy then noted Alison's longtime history of lurking and her complete knowledge of the board's history. They both became co-moderators to Missy. Junior moderators Jenni and Cheshyre were decided upon with brief debate; Cheshyre is passionate and loves her craft, and Jenni has a quick moderational hand.
A - Well, if you're doing this, Mr/Ms troll, we're probably already aware of it. Most fanfic board moderators are united through the art of our craft. In short, we can see what you're doing.
A - Hopefully, you mean fanfiction terms. Here are a few common words that turn up in wrestling fanfiction conversation:
A - Please refrain from changing font colors in your post, as well as font size and the use of Marquees. As for posting pictures, you can learn how to do so Here. If you want a place to link out from, The WWFF highly reccomends Postmypic.com
A - Basically, Mynx makes photo manipulations for her own amusement, and for anything you ask, PROVIDED that you supply her with the correct pictures. She is already burdened enough as it is, so don't make her scower the net for pics.;-) Plus, if you have graphic art of your own and would like to showcase it on our board, just send it along to Mynx and she'll put it up and give you the proper credit!
Q - What are the rules?
On Terra Firma, this means only wrestling fanfiction related and wrestling-related posts. Topics about a tragedy in your family, or getting a new dog, anything personal, could go here, as long as it's marked with an "OT" (off-topic) header. That just means typing "OT" in the space marked "subject", where you usually put the title of your story/message.
On The Dream Lounge, that means only story-related questions, suggestions, challenges, requests, and such. Please don't post stories or anything off-topic.
To further distinguish a story post from an OT post, please consider using quotation marks to surround the title of your story.
Q - I'm new at fanfic writing. Are there any cardinal rules that I should obey on this board regarding to the way my stories are posted?
Another good idea is to post as many parts of your story under one heading as possible. If you have a humongous story, anything over ten chapters, however, it might be a good idea to start a new thread. Use your judgment when it comes to this, but anything that causes the board to scroll dramatically to the left hurts the board's appearance.
Another thing we cannot stress enough is, if you know html, PLEASE close the tags on each of your messages. Also, any message that changes the font size on the front of the board is strictly forbidden and will be deleted.
Q - Ooops! I accidentally posted off-topic! You won't ban me, will you?
Q - Uh oh. I broke a rule. What now?
Q - Who are you people anyway?
"No, this is us in a nutshell! HELP, we're in a nutshell! Let us out!"
Q - And how did Kai come to find you? And hey, why didn't she pick me?!
And Momma Kai? She's definately still the owner of this board, something that should not be forgotten.
Don't be offended if you're a longtime poster and you weren't named moderator. Your writing is the most valuable asset you bring to this board!
Q - Hah! I'm so smart! I'm trolling another board and acting all innocent on on yours. What do you think of that?
We also keep a log of IP addresses, which, in the case of a serial troller, may be passed back and forth between board moderators. Don't be frightened; your IP does not reveal your address, phone number, etc. It just serves as a protectionary tool.
Q - What are these terms I see people using? What do they mean?
Mark - a person who believes that all storylines they see on air are absolutely true.
Mary Sue - A character, female or male, inserted into a work of fanfiction, sometimes obviously in the place of the author. Mary Sues, however, tend to be all powerful. They solve plots that would take canon (see below) characters YEARS to solve. They're not exactly popular in the genre.
PWP (Plot What Plot) - A piece of fanfiction, usually rated NC-17, that is basically an excuse for characters to have sexual relations (also known as smut, smutfics).
Canon, in the canon - To portray a character as "canon", you must write them exactly as they are on TV. Anything else is out of canon (referred to as OOC). Don't worry about writing wrestling out of canon! Sometimes that can be wonderful!
Het - An abbreviation for heterosexual fic, denoting a relationship, explicit or romantic, between a woman and a man.
Slash, Slash fiction - A story that features a relationship, explicit or otherwise, between characters of the same sex. This is also referred to as "yaoi" (For man-to-man contact) and "yuri" (for woman to woman contact).
Q - How do I post pictures/change font colors on my post?
Q - How does the whole 'photo manipulation of the month' deal work?
Any further comments, questions or suggested additions can be submitted to the WWFF staff here.
