After high school, I went to CC to start on my computer tech degree, but after the first year, I wanted to travel. So I thought I will join the Navy. I enlisted in Nov of 1997 and was in basic in Dec of 1997. From there I went to Gunner's Mate school for 6 months and then to my ship. It is called the USS Nassau (like the island) LHA-4. It is a multi purpose amphibious assault carrier. Basically a floating hotel for Marines. But our main areas that we would patrol was the Mediterranean Sea. For my first Christmas overseas, I was in Barcelona for 3 weeks, then in Italy, France, Crete, Kosovo, Turkey, Yugoslavia and Spain. While in Kosovo, we ended up being there, off shore for 45 days and only received 1 beer. Oh well. While we were there we had some people who didn't like us being there and took some "pot" shots at us, while I was on guard duty. I did join the Navy for some adventure. My second Christmas was in Rome, and I did something I have always wanted to do! I went to the Vatican and went into St Peters. I really want to see all of the alumni at the reunion.
