Taking spanish as one of my elective classes was possibly the stupidest thing I have ever done. Not only because spanish is the shittiest language ever created, but the teacher at my school is a dumbass. I absolutely dispise this class along with most of the people in my class, and every other person who has taken it. I dread the feeling of having to walk into that class. It is comparable to walking into the 7th circle of hell (you might wonder why I know what the 7th circle of hell is like, well I've been to spanish). On a good week you will have only two tests, worth about 60 points each, to worry about. If your like me, you say F - this, and quit trying in the 4th quarter. And then there is this rule where you can't say "the 's' words", which are stupid, screwed, sucks, and shut up. The reasoning for this rule is almost as stupid as the rule itself. She says that you can't say them because stupid is one of the most offensive words in the spanish language, well we're not in Mexico, so I'm going to say it anyway. She also can't teach to save her life, she just gives out tests, which sucks also. You get your test back and find a percent on it somwhere between 0% and 60%. Then you go up to her desk and say "this sucks" and she says "senor (sorry I can't put a damn tilde on the 'n') silly, dumb, or foolish". I usually reply with "no, look at my test grade, this genuinly sucks", she says "but senor...". "No, shut up, this sucks, and my grade is screwed". Actually if I really did say that I would be screwed, because you know what would happen, well I'm going to tell you. If I said that a wind would slowly pick up in the room, and the lights would turn into fire. A fissure would open in the middle of the room, flames would rise from it, and the DEVIL HIMSELF would come out of hell to smite me. Believe it or not, that's just about how bad Spanish is. And the best part about the tests is that sometimes you don't find out about them until the day before, or the day of. If you do somehow manage to get a decent grade on a test, she will quickly find this out, and throw a pop quiz at you. And you will fail it, because it will be on somthing that you have never heard of before. There has to be somthing to even out the amount of screwed your GPA is. Tests will turn out so bad in this class that the top student in my class will have a D- on it, and she will refuse to let the class retake it. One main problem that she has is that she takes your reasons for taking spanish way too personally. She thinks that your taking the class because you want to be a interpeter, or you want to go live in Mexico after you graduate. Really, no one wants to do either, we just want to go to college. And to her that just isn't a good enough reason for taking the class. The worst part is that colleges require you to take spanish 1 and 2, so once you know what your into, its too late. |
