Welcome to the Laughing Crone Cottage
Greetings,

I'm Morgan Wildrose, the Laughing Crone, quiltmaker and priestess. For the past few years I've been working a set of 8 quilts, one to symbolize each of the holy seasons of the year. This series of quilts, mostly traditional pieced blocks, are each meant to be used for the six weeks of the season they represent. A warm, nurturing touch of the Goddess in which to snuggle, sleep and dream. I've named each quilt for one of the Ladies of the Lake in Caitlin Matthew's book of the same name.
Winter Solstice/Yule Imbolc/Candlemas
"Ragnell"  Reminiscent of sugar, spice, holiday treats and the colors of Yule, this quilt represents rebirth and renewal and the warm arms of the Goddess for the coldest time of the year. The pattern is called Sugar Me and is from McCalls Quilting Magazine, Dec 1998. "Dindraine"  This season  is one of dedication and initiation. The Double Irish Chain reminds me of my Celtic roots, the infinite way everything links together and my committment to the Goddess.
Beltane/May Day
Spring Equinox
"Guinevere" The fullness of spring, summer is approaching. The land is rich and vital and growth is strong. The  Churn Dash blocks represent the  power of this season with the vibrant colors of growth wound around them.
"Kundry" Spring time. The first flowers and symbols of life reviving itself after the long winter. The Goddess is alive and Magic is afoot. This pattern is called "Mollie's Magic Pansies" and is from the book Say It With Quilts.
Lammas
Summer Solstice
"Igrainne"  The first of the harvest days. The grain is represented here. All the fabrics are of wheat, corn and sunflowers. The pattern is Yellow Brick Road.
"Enid" This Trip to Ireland pattern symbolizes the wild rose - the flower sacred to the Celtic Mother Goddess Danu.
Samhain/Hallowe'en
Fall Equinox/Mabon
"Morgan" Here we are at the end of the year, a time for reflection, connection with things/beings who are on the other side of this world. This sampler quilt represents all the things that need to be cherished and released during this dark time of year so that we may be renewed at the next holy day. The Godess is deep within herself now, waiting to be reborn.
"Nimue" Another harvest, the fruits/nuts/seeds. Also the time to begin to slow down for the coming winter. The Goddess retreats from sight a bit but not from our hearts. This quilt pattern is called Cobblestones and represents the path I follow through the forest to the cave where I spend some time in silence
