One of many side projects to come out in 2002 was Box Car Racer. Slipknot's Corey Taylor started Stone Sour, Joey Jordinson started The Murderdolls, Chris Cornell and Rage Against The Machine started Audioslave, and Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker started Box Car Racer, DeLonge and Barker belong to todays biggest punk band Blink 182. The band also has David Kennedy from punk group Over My Dead Body. DeLonge wanted to start a side project to write material that he couldn't write in Blink 182. Box Car Racer's first single was "I Feel So." The single is Tom spilling his feelings in a with alternative riffs. Songs like this rarely were written by Blink 182. "I Feel So" picked up huge rotation on MTV and radio. Box Car Racer toured with punk band The Used in the summer. The Used's singer is dating Kelly Osbourne. Box car racer in the fall, released thier second single "There Is." The song is acoustic rock, and pop. The slower song, which Blink 182 never would write still got big results. The video was directed by Alex Kostas (Filter, Andrew W.K). Box Car Racer's self titled debut album debuted at #12 on Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Travis Barker started a third band called the Transplants which as Rancid guitarist Tim Armstrong.
