Before getting a record deal Eminem was an underground rapper participating in underground rap battles. In a huge one in Detriot, his hometown, he placed second. He later gave a demo tape to some kids, who passed on to Interscope Records, and then Dr.Dre. Dr.Dre liked what he heard and got him to his studio in three days. Dre was shocked that Eminem was white because rap is fluently african-american cultured. Eminem started his huge career in 1999 when he released the massive hit "My Name" is. The songs conterversial lyrics made him an icon and a hated-by-parents rapper. His funny videos and songs are conterversial, yet entertaining. "My Name Is" topped many charts. He later realesed "Guilty Conscience" which featured his rich rapper friend Dr.Dre. The explict lyrics were a factor, but Eminem was on his way to success. In 2000 Eminem put out his biggest hit in his career "The Real Slim Shady." The song topped more charts then "My Name Is..." and for longer. The next single was "The Way I Am " about how fans annoy him wth pesterining, and how people won't buy, or play his music due to lyrics about drugs, alcohol, killing, suicide, and other explict things.Eminem [Marshall Mathers] also did a hit song with Dr.Dre in 2000 called "Forgot About Dre" off Dre's Chronic 2000 album. "Stan" was his next hit. It is a story of an oppsesed Eminem fan writing to Eminem about how he praises him and does what he does. The main character [Stan] goes crazy because he didn't get any letters in return. So Stan drives off a bridge with his pregnent girlfriend in the trunk. Later Eminem writes back and finds out Stan just commited suicide. The song was massive and Mathers even got to preform with legend Elton John. The song also boasted Dido was feautured in the song. In 2002 Mathers released his new album "The Eminem Show." The album was a billboard topper until Nelly's "Nellyville" kicked it off. The first single was "Without Me." The song was topping rap, hip-hop, and for the first time pop charts. In the song and the video he goes after Moby, Limp Bizkit, *NSYNC's Chris Kirkpatrick, and Osama Bin Ladin. In "The Real Slim Shady" he goes after Britney Spears, and Christina Agularia. Eminem also is in a rap group called D12. They've had two hits. "Purple Hills," and "Fight Music." He is also todays biggest rapper. He is in the biggesr rapper club which is legendary rappers like Tupac, Dr.Dre, P.Diddy, and more. The second single off of "The Eminem Show" is "Cleanin' Out Closet." The video shows a kid getting abused by his mother. The song was big an very requested across the North America. In November Eminem made his big screen debute. His movie "8 Mile" loosly based on his life was massive. In it's opening week it made $54.5 and debuted at #1. The next week Harry Potter's new movie kicked it off the #1 spot at leaving it with $24.5 million. Off the soundtrack, choosen by Eminem, came the first single "Lose Yourself." The soundtrack debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts. "Lose Yourself" topped the Top 200 as well. 50 Cent's "Wanksta" was the second single off of the 8 Mile soundtrack. After two weeks on the Billboard 200 chart Eminem announced there would be another soundtrack off of 8 Mile. In early 2003 50 Cent released his single "In Da Club." 50 Cent, who appeared on the 8 Mile soundtrack, is a Eminem/Dr.Dre protege. In his video or "In Da Club" Eminem and Dr.Dre make cameos. 50 Cent was an instant smash. His album sold more the "The Eminem Show" and det records for it's debut. "In Da Club" was a massive hit and Eminem had done what Dr.Dre did to him. 50 Cent was singed to Dr.Dre record label (Aftermath), and Eminem's label (Shady Records).The soundtrack topped the albums charts again later. Eminem later dropped "White America" as his third single. The conterversial video was onyl avalable on-line. The fourth single from "The Eminem Show" was "Superman." The song only hit radio charts and the video was only avalible on the "8 Mile" DVD. The fifth single was "Sing For The Moment" which came out around "Superman's" release. The song has Joe Perry from legendary rockers Aerosmith on guitar. D12, and 50 Cent makes cameos in the video. Eminem is a part of rap group D12.
