In 1998 they released "Garage Inc," a double disc feautring B-Sides, covers, and stuff from previous Garage Days. After years of being abused, and picked on he finally snapped and left. He then went into Canadaian metal band Voivod, and brought them out of retirement to record. Also James had entered rehab for his drinking in July 2001, and Metallica was unheard of for almost a year. The trio minus Jason, started recording again with Bob Rock producing, and playing bass. In early 2003 Voivod released thier album, and Jason bragged Voivod could kick Metallica anyday. Also Metallica, nearly done thier album, announced they would headline the Summer Santiarium Tour again with rap-rockers Linkin Park, and Limp Bizkit, along with The Deftones, and Mudvayne. Still without a bassist. The group soon welcomed Robert Trujillo. Trujillo was a perfect match for Metallica, and was even comented by Rock, who shot Metallica to fame. Trujillo first met Metallica, when he was bassist for Suicidal Tendencies, on a tour in 1994. He also is most famous for being apart of Ozzy's line up in the mid 90's. He joined Ozzy with ex-Faith No More members Mike Bordin who is still in Ozzy. Trujillo was strangely enough repleaced by Jason Newstead in Ozzy's line up joining Zakk Wylde, mike Bordin, and Ozzy. He also played in Infectious Grooves, a funk-rock group. Opon Tujillo's arrival Metallica had an MTV Icon show on them. Icon is a show that pays tribute to a band's influence into thier genre.
