Payable On Death formed in 1992 in San Diego, California. The band was formed by Wuv, and Marcos. Soon Wuv invited his cousin into the band to sing. The trio started playing gigs, and soon hooked up with Traa, to do the bass duty. Before, and after his arrival, the band started playing opening hometown shows for Cypress Hill, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Green Day. They also built a strong fan base at local punk bars. They started thier own record label Rescue Records, and independantly released "P.O.D. Live," "Brown," and "Snuff The Punk." "Brown" sold over 30,000 copies, which landed them a major label deal with Atlantic Records in 1998. They soon hit the studio with Howard Bronson. Before the album was released they issued another indie album "Warriors EP." The album "Fundamental Elements Of Southtown," was released in 2000. The album quickly cracked the Billboard 200 and made an impression on the chart. The band's extreme live act, and spiritual, heavy hip-hop flavored metal sound gained quick reputation. The first single "Southtown," gained heavy rotaton on MTV, and on rock, and christian rock stations. The next single "Rock The Party" brought P.O.D.'s incerdible hip-hop rock sound. Thier third video "School Of Hard Knocks" was the first single from the "Little Nicky" soundtrack.
