Toronto Thanks Giving week, November 23rd to November 28th 1999

Wednesday 24th; Me and Annika do tourist stuff. The people were dead freindly; when we got the map out at one point a lady sprung up from no where and offered tips on what to see, micro-seconds later a parking-meter man came up and did the same, cool.

The CN (Canadien National) Tower; the world's tallest free standing structure at about 1860 feet high, now you may know about my complete fear of shear drops. There is even a glass elevator running up the outside of the building, mad!

Up the CN Tower at 1427 feet, some stupid engineer thought it would be a good idea to put a glass floor in. This is as close as I got to it; laying down and peering down at the edge, aaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

and the moral of the story is: never try and take a self portrait at altitude whilst suffering from lack of sleep, with a new camera

Everything's so tall

The first night me and Annika were there, we met up with Annika's friend from York, Vicky, who is at Uni in Toronto for the year, nice. Note my 'camp hand' position, not nice.

This is the view sat inside The Hard Rock Cafe, looking inside the Sky Dome. The Sky Dome is right next to the CN Tower, it is a multi purpose sports stadium, indoors, but has a retractable roof for sunny days. The baseball team (Toronto Blue Jays) and the football team (Toronto Arganoughts) play here, nice.

The Beaver is Canada's National Animal, it can be found stamped on 10 cent coins.

Thursday 25th; Niagra Falls

The Canadien side of the Falls, called the Horseshoe, oddly enough because it has evolved into a horseahoe shape as you can also see below. According to boffins 1.5 million bathtubs full of water fall every second, now that's amazing.

Dave hadn't eaten for three minutes, things were getting desperate as he tried in vain to eat the rainbow, Annika thought it was a fun game in any case.

The bird is actually Helen Baxendale, pictured above with Our Emma; they were filming "Dead till Monday" at the Falls, this was probably the most exciting part of the visit.

It's a good job I didn't look like a complete pillock in this multi-purpose YELLOW poncho.

Once back in Toronto Brits Abroad hit the pub...

Amy, with Mark and Matt. Mark's claim to fame is undoubtedly that he was voted England's widest boy, a true Essex boy, permanently clad in Armani, he calls Billericay home. Matt's claim to fame, apart from having an inbuilt 'can't remember where he is or what he was doing' is his suncanny resemblance to Matt from Game On.

Friday 26th: Shopping and then Everything But the Girl

Yellow Sunglasses; Toronto had something Rude to offer after all.

Cath, Holly, Annika and Emma do what girls know best shopping. This is inside the Eaton Mall, very nice.

This DJ type bloke is none other than Ben Watt, the guy from Everything But The Girl, nice. We all went to see him at this very trendy Soho type bar called The Fez Batik.

Today I took 15 normal English exchange students, and one super efficient German-Italian student. I combined them within the confines of a 'Public Drinking House' with the music of a certain Ben Watt. The results of which have exceeded all my expectations; I can hear a drunken chorus of, Brits Abroad...Brits Abroad...Brits Abroad... la...la... Fascinating.

Brits Abroad, hit the floor and make an ass of yourself...come on. This was the same night that one girl went up to Chris and asked if this was the first time he had ever been out drinking!! Mission accomplished!

Saturday 27th; Chinese meal in a Chinatown restaurant, then outdoor ice skating, then Roger Sanchez

Ain't Toronto Brilliant, I mean there's that dead big tower thats got a glass floor, how cool is that. And there's that Ben Watt bloke he's brilliant an all, Everything But The Girl, yeah lots of girls, there fantastic too, especially with all that beer, plenty of falling over mind, but not as much falling over as those Niagra Falls, Blimey. Spectacular. Good job we came back to Toronto though cos that Roger Sanchez was fantastic, he made us dance till 6AM - BRRRIILLLLLIAAAANNNNTTT.

This is all I have to show for Roger Sanchez (World Famous Disc Jockey (Like Dave Lee Travis - for all my older viewers). Unfortuneatley they wouldn't let us take cameras into the club - gits. Anyway Me, Karen, Matt and Pras made it to 5.45am in the club, finally got back at 6.30am - BRRRILLIIIAAANNTTT
