Steelhorse Console |

Face it, the original console is missing space. A quick search led me to some real storage space up front.. |
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< I used 1" L alum. "rails" to bridge to airbag sensor in the middle, bolted to the original floor brackets. They are the silver bars seen on either side, & will run the length of the new console Match the holes, drill the rail, and install using the original bolts |
Install is relatively Easy: Remove the original console, 4 bolts, you have to move the seats back and forth to get to them. A small 1/4" rachet socket wrench makes your life easier to get to the bolt heads |
Just a preventive move, I trimmed in some foam between the rails, just to stop any dirt from accumilating underneath >>>>>>>>>>>>>> |
Drop in the unit, it fits in nice and snug, 2 small tap screws through the bottom of the unit and into the rails holds it all in place. Now get all your gear up front with you. |
Steelhorse Model 31501 Same floor dimensions as the original, but taller & squared. ( 27.25L x 8.75W x 12.5D ) The main bin is 14x7x9deep + you have more room under the front cupholders. I added the small shelf you see above.. |

Extra Modifications |
I love the console, but even it has to be altered as well for personal use The plastic cupholders are a little shallow, but it can be corrected. RrdStarr (from XOC) installed a steelhorse and then proceeded to manufacture deep aluminum cupholders inserts.. worth checking out |
The shape of the console also allowed me to continue my quest to get my Laptop, GPS and Navigation installed in the X. |
Grab these consoles if you find them, Steelhorse went out of business, although some product are being made under new brand names |
