To be quite honest, bikes don't belong inside the X, even though it was a selling point and we all saw the pictures in the ads.  The official rack cost an arm and a leg, and nothing but a little smarts that could solve
A 1" x 6" board, cut to the width of the X, + your favorite skewer mounts ( any bike shop ) and you have it
Ok.. this was my first try, problems.. I have 2 large frame mountain bikes, so do most of my friends, and 9 times out of 10, they won't fit side by side.  I got away with it last year.. only because I carried a few smaller bikes, I found a solution with the help of my drill press.. and nothing better to do.
For me, its used for bike overflow or when staying inside the city for too long, drawbacks, extra mud inside, you have to remove the seat.. in my case anyway.
My solution.. I drilled a series of holes and tapped in bolts through the back side., basically a center row of evenly spaced holes
to match the holes in the mounts, then another series below and above this line.
This allows me to move the trucks left or right along 3 parallel lines forward or back,
or install the trucks on a 30 degree angle
You can make out how I can just take off the nut and rebolt the mount in any position.. no more conflicts with the handbars when dealing with large frame bikes
A feable attempt.. but here is a template to drilling holes.
