There are enough stock tiedowns in the X, but more is always better. Ever since I came across rubber mirror mounts, also known as Wall Nuts, they have become my standard hardware for mounting anything into the X, or replacing frequently used panel snaps (which usually break all too easy) Simple enough device, a rubber sleeve with a flange. (a nut is embedded into the rubber) As you insert and tighten the screw, the rubber compresses behind the hole and provides a solid mounting point. Great for Mag Flashlights, hooks, or any bracket. Available in a varied sizes and length at home hardware and some automotive stores. |
For my saddle bags, I just replaced the carpet caps with the anchors and screwed in flip down loops. These loops hold the cargo net in place with either plastic hooks or small caribiners. They also fold flat when the rear seats go down. I also had problems with the panel snaps for the rear, so again I replaced the snap with another hook ( just by the edge of the cargo door) I sometimes string another net across to stop my dogs from jumping out as I open the hatch. Same principle for the 2 ceiling caps, but I used nylon electrical loops instead |
The last of the extra tiedowns, I added an aluminum L bracket behind the rear grab handles. Then drilled 2 extra holes. I use this location when I use my net pet divider... this way I'm able to anchor it and stretch it just behind the front headrests and tailor it tight and neat. Also makes it easier for the dogs when the use the side door to get in or out. |
