Chapter 5

After getting to know each other, Skye and Kazor went out to the Dark Forest just outside of town to hunt. They hadn’t been gone too long until there was a knock at the door.

“Um… Should we answer it?” Rayne asked.

“I suppose,” I walked over to the door, Rayne following. I slowly opened the door and saw a girl standing there. She was shorter then me and was about the same height as Rayne. I looked at Rayne confused. She was just as confused as I.

The girl looked at us; she had cat ears and a cat tail. Her eyes were a bright yellow. I had heard of people with cat-like features before but had never seen them. They were called the Nekians and could transform into cats. They weren’t very dangerous though.

“Err… Is Skye Nite here?” she asked. She knew Skye? I wondered.

“No, he’s not here right now,” I replied staring at her. I wasn’t trying to be rude.

“Ah, I see,” she said. “So… He IS staying here?”

“Yeah… Is he a friend of yours?” Rayne asked.

“Yes, do you mind if I come in?”

“Nyaahhh… Who is it?” Mik interrupted gliding over to us. He had just woken up from a nap. He stopped at the door and his jaw dropped apparently surprised to see the girl. “Oh no…”

“Mik, how nice to see you again!” the girl barged inside and hugged Mik.

“Hey!! They didn’t’ say you could come in! Back, back, back I say!” he shouted.

“Oh hush up, silly! You know you missed me!”

“Um… Well I guess it’s okay if you come in,” Rayne said. She didn’t look very happy. I stood there confused.

The girl let go of Mik and he flew away from her. She walked into the living room and sat on the couch. I shut the door and then Rayne and I followed her.

“So… Any idea when my beloved Skye will be back?” she asked. I stared at her, she was being so rude.

“Nope,” I said getting frustrated with her. What gave her the right to call him her beloved?

“Oh… well guess I’ll just wait here for him then. You can call me Mindy.”

“Well, I am Starre, and this is my friend Rayne,” I told her.

Rayne and I then left her on the couch and went into the kitchen. Mik followed. All three of us kept silent and looked at one another. Mik then let out a sigh.

“Hey… How ‘bout we poison her?!” he whispered snickering.

“Mik, we can’t do that,” said Rayne. I looked at her with a disappointed look. “Starre, you know we can’t. We don’t even know who she is.”

“You’re right, but still it’d be fun, no?” I answered.

“I dun no. Mik who is she? She seemed to know you.” Mik didn’t answer Rayne’s question. He looked down at the floor.

“Mik…” I said and suddenly there was a scream of joy. We ran back into the living room to see what happened. Skye and Kazor were back. Mindy was hugging Skye and he looked annoyed.

“Alright, who let HER in here?!” he said.

“She let herself in here,” Mik answered.

“Eh?” I looked at him still wondering who Mindy was. He pushed her off of him and walked over to me. I stared into his warm eyes.

“Um… Skye, why did she call you ‘my beloved Skye’?” I asked him before he could hug me. He turned around to face Mindy.

“She lied, Starre. You mustn’t believe her. She made it up, the whole thing. I was never hers,” he answered. “Mindy, why are you here?”

“I’m here to see you! You disappeared and didn’t even say goodbye to me! Didn’t you miss me?!” she shouted.

“No.”

“Mindy, get out,” said Kazor. “Skye was never yours. All he did was save you from ONE vampire for money. He didn’t save you because he loves you.” She was shocked. She slapped Kazor and then ran out the door.

Rayne ran over to Kazor. There was a small cut on his cheek. Apparently Nekians had claws too.

I walked upstairs, into Rayne’s room, and out the balcony door. I walked over to the edge and looked out upon the town. The sky was now becoming dark. There were a few stars out.

Thousands of questions raced through my head. Who was that girl and why does she love Skye? Was it just because he saved her, or was there something else? I laid my head on my arms on the rail of the balcony. My eyes felt warm with tears. I didn’t ever want to see that girl again.

I heard voices down stairs. Apparently Mindy had come back. They were yelling at her and she was crying. Then the yelling stopped. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I didn’t bother to see who it was.

“Starre… Are you okay?” I looked around to see Skye. My eyes had turned red. I had lost control…

Skye stepped back taking his hand away. I stared at him. “Starre, what’s wrong?!” I began to glow a dark blue color. My hair blew in the wind along with my black cloak.

I didn’t know what was happening. Then Kazor, Rayne, and Mindy walked into the room and stood behind Skye. They stayed inside and didn’t come onto the balcony. Skye, however, did. He slowly walked closer to me.

“You mean, she’s a vamp?! Skye, stop!! She’s a vamp!! Kill her!!” Mindy said but Kazor put a hand over her mouth.

“Shut up,” he said. She was terrified.

“Please be careful,” Rayne said. Skye continued walking towards me.

“Starre,” he said embracing his arms around me, “wake up. It’s okay… I don’t love her, I never have. I’ve always loved you.”

I stopped glowing and my eyes turned back to normal. I then fainted into Skye’s arms. He picked me up and kissed me. He walked back into the room carrying me.

“So, it’s true then? You love her?” Mindy said. Skye stopped.

“Yes,” he continued past her, Rayne, and Kazor. Walking into our room, he set me down on the bed.

“Skye… I’m sorry,” I whispered barely opening my eyes.

“Shh… You have nothing to say sorry for, it’s my fault. I’m sorry. You rest here okay?” he said. I closed my eyes again as he kissed my forehead. I soon fell asleep.
