Description of a Long Range Strike Competition
Race 5 will be on Tuesday, February 7.

Pilots’ Briefing at 1135 HRS in Walter Beech Hall.

The mission will be LONG RANGE STRIKE.  Based on the strategic disposition of friendly and enemy forces on the day of the operation, we will locate our “base” near one end of the room and select a “target” near the other end.  The mission will be to launch from the base, fly to the target (avoiding any hazardous terrain, enemy air defenses, and atmospheric microbursts along the way), make a prescribed number of passes over, around, or through the target zone, and return to base.  Fastest mission time wins.  Penalty for crash & restart is 5 sec in friendly territory, but 10 sec in hostile territory.  Extra points if you use a military aircraft.  (Although none of the armed services has specifically acknowledged responsibility for Venkat’s Dyna-Soar, it will be classified as a military aircraft for the purposes of this event based on comments from a source who did not wish to be identified.  The gunship version of the Twin Otter also counts.)

Your score is your flight time with the following adjustments:

-        5 sec penalty (points added) per crash & restart in friendly territory

-        10 sec penalty per crash & restart in hostile territory

-        10 sec penalty per pass omitted (but you must make at least one pass to score)

-        10 sec bonus (points subtracted) per extra pass over the target

-        5 sec bonus for using a military aircraft

Low score wins
