Mialyth's Flight
Written by Krystin

Kalisa shot up, not knowing what was happening. Everything in place, the shelf, the door, her bed, Mialyth's weyr. If everything was there, then what had happened?

You were dreaming rider-mine. Do not worry, everything was a silly dream.

Kalisa felt reassured now. Mialyth rumbled and glided out of the weyr, probably to take a bath. Kalisa didn't notice the red and yellow flecks in her whirling eyes. Mialyth bugled and Kalisa jumped out of bed, just in time to see her land and pounce on a herdbeast. Two bronzes, one sunset, and four browns were sitting on ledges surrounding the brilliantly shining, gold Mialyth.

"BLOOD IT ONLY! YOU WANT TO GET OFF THE GROUND DON'T YOU? BLOOD IT! YOU SHARDING BEAST, BLOOD IT!" Kalisa ran down out of her weyr, to the edge of the fence bordering the Feeding Grounds. She gripped the fence tightly, as her knuckles turned white she linked minds with Mialyth. The most glorious Gold to ever grace Pern was rising! Mialyth blooded five more beasts without any hesitation and took off into the air.

A brown was left behind. Frokath looked up to realize his mistake. As the gold soared into the night sky, Frokath sulked in his weyr. The two bronzes, one sunset and three browns soared after Mialyth. Mialyth taunted Posiedonth as he sped up, trying not a while after Mialyth took off, a brown started to close in on her. A flash of lightning and Mialyth ducked and dove away leaving two browns, Zicoth and Posiedonth to collide. Zicoth and Posiedonth glided to the ground, unhappy as they did not catch the glowing Mialyth. The gold twirled among the clouds, her glowing hide easily visible against the navy blue sky. She dove and rose, rising on warm air thermals.

Zenith caught a warm air thermal and rose up and waited for Mialyth. Mialyth rose on the same air thermal and bumped into Zenith. She spun around not noticing the bronze, Ataventh, also approaching from above. Ataventh dove and just as Zenith was about to grab her, Ataventh dove and twined tails with Mialyth. She screamed, not knowing what was happening, Ataventh crooned and Mialyth calmed down. They twined necks and slowly spiraled to the ground.
