Raity
An idea occurred to her though and she headed for the workroom where she found him hard at work. She opened the door and walked in, and apparently destroyed his concentration because the jar he was working on exploded, this time some of the particles burning his cheek. He scowled at her as she rushed to his side, but then seemed to notice the pain in his cheek. He reached up a hand and she jumped forward to catch him as he almost collapsed upon seeing the blood on his fingertips. “Easy there, Valesson, back to the healer we go. It’s not bad, probably won’t leave much of a scar, but we’d best tend to it before Master Dardon decides to have both our hides for dripping blood on the floor,” Raity said as she pulled him to his feet and supported him down the hall to the healer’s office. Master Pollin was there this time and he ushered Raity out of the room and shut the door in his face. Raity scowled at the closed door for a moment before heading off to her room. She’d best at least pretend she hadn’t anything to do with the explosion in the workroom. She gave Valesson plenty of time to get done with the healer and went off in search of him again. Finally she rounded a bend and saw him running towards her. She grinned, thinking perhaps he’d come to his senses at last, but her smile turned into another scowl as he rushed right past her without even seeming to see her. Still scowling in frustration she headed the way he’d come and found Master Dardon standing in the open doorway to the Hall, talking to a dragonrider. “Forgive me,” she said, straightening her countenance and her skirts as they both turned her way, “I had no desire to interrupt.” “Quite alright, Raity,” said Master Dardon, with a smile. “Run along now, head to the workroom if you’ve nothing better to do, I’ll be along shortly.” He turned away from her but the dragonrider’s attention remained on her, though he continued to talk to Master Dardon. Raity just stood there, watching him curiously until she realized she ought to be smiling as she usually did at any man who gave her such scrutiny. She flashed the dragonrider one of her notorious smiles and his eyebrows shot up and he began to laugh. “Forgive me, Master Dardon, I’m not laughing at you,” he said quickly, barely repressing his chuckles as he stepped past the older master and beckoned for Raity to approach. “Come here, young lady.” She flashed him another grin, but turned her look into one of astonishment and confusion as Master Dardon also turned to look at her. The dragonrider took hold of her hand and led her out into the small courtyard where his dragon was watching them. She took a step back at seeing the dragon regarding her so intently and her eyes opened wide in genuine surprise when the blue started crooning softly. “Just as I thought!” crowed the rider, who’s name she hadn’t yet caught. He laughed heartily as he continued. “You’re green material if ever I saw it!” Raity frowned at him for a moment before she realized what he’d said. “You mean, you think I would make a good dragonrider?” “Indeed, and not just a dragonrider, you’d make a perfect greenrider. Rarely have I seen such seductive innocence but in young greenriders,” replied the rider and gallantly bowed before her. “Bluerider, U’scu at your service, ma’am,” he said, winking as he straightened and she grinned. “Taking two of my youngsters away then, are you?” said Master Dardon, coming down the steps toward them. “With your kind indulgence of course.” “Two?” asked Raity, but realization dawned on her even as the words left her mouth. She grinned at U’scu and arched a delicate brow. “You mean Valesson will be coming as well?” U’scu’s eyes widened and his brows shot up at her reaction but she paid that no heed. All she noticed was that he nodded and she rubbed her hands together eagerly, excited to have further chances to pursue the difficult young man. Continue... |
