Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a good holiday! Some of my writers are still on vacation or attending to personal things, so I will be filling in for most of their columns. We do have our regular writers for New Episode Review, Shipper’s Corner and the famous tabloid-like Snogger’s Column. Also, we have a guest writer this week that I will give proper mention to as we get into the newsletter. And there will be no Mulder and Scullyisms this week due to space. So let’s get on with it! I’ll shut up for now.
This week's issue:

I was actually very happy to bring you the news myself this week. There is a lot of exciting things going on in the X-Files world this week! But BEWARE!! MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!! Don’t say I didn’t warn ya….
IN SEARCH OF THE MULDER
(borrowed from x-files.about.com - great site!)
The following press release from FOX was distributed on Monday, January 8, 2001. It provides some details about the four episodes to be aired during the February sweeps period.
All-New Episodes To Air Throughout February Sweeps, Including Three With David Duchovny
The search for Agent Mulder intensifies in February as a new agent joins the hunt for the missing Mulder, who was apparently abducted by aliens at the conclusion of last season. FBI Agent Monica Reyes, played by guest star Annabeth Gish, is brought onto the case by Agent John Doggett to add her expertise to the mysterious Mulder X-File. In February, the series also features a case Mulder had kept secret from Scully that may add clues to his unexplained disappearance; a flesh-eating life form terrorizing the Boston subway system; and a case that forces Scully to question whether she should reveal her pregnancy to Doggett. The X-Files airs Sundays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).
In the Feb. 4 episode "The Gift," a case Mulder (David Duchovny) kept secret from Scully (Gillian Anderson) comes to light as Doggett (Robert Patrick) investigates circumstances that may ultimately relate to Mulder's unexplained disappearance.
In "Medusa" Feb. 11, Scully and Doggett race to investigate a string of bizarre deaths in the tunnels of the Boston subway system linked to a mysterious killer.
In the currently untitled Feb. 18 episode (written by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz), Scully and Doggett are called in to investigate reports of alien impregnations of human subjects. As they discover more disturbing clues, Scully is forced to question whether she should reveal the secret of her pregnancy to Doggett. Clues to the identity of who -- or what -- the father of Scully's baby may be are revealed.
In the Feb. 25 episode, "This Is Not Happening" (written by Carter and Spotnitz), the search for Mulder intensifies as FBI agent Monica Reyes (guest star Gish) joins the hunt for the missing Mulder in the first of a three-episode story arc. As Scully and Doggett's difference of opinions about the missing Mulder heighten, Doggett enlists Reyes' help to bring her own viewpoint to the case. In the climatic episode ending, Scully has a shocking encounter with Mulder.
ANOTHER NEW AGENT!
(borrowed from x-file.about.com)
A new cast member will join the series as the search for Mulder ends. Some weeks ago, word got out among the X-Files fan community that Ten Thirteen Productions was casting a for an "Agent Karen Miller" for episode 8x14, "This is Not Happening." The character was described as "attractive" and in her late 20s to early 30s. The cast breakdown stated that she was spiritual and perhaps as a result more open to the paranormal, but that she was still very grounded. She was listed as a "guest star," rather than a recurring or regular character.Well, the role has been cast.
It was first reported in The Hollywood Reporter (January 3, 2001), and then picked up by all the usual entertainment outlets, that Annabeth Gish has been cast to appear in a three-episode arc, with an option to return as a regular in the fall if the series is picked up for a ninth season. According to the article, she "will be brought to the team by agent John Doggett (Robert Patrick) from the New Orleans office, where she has been working a ritualistic crime detail dealing with reports of satanic cults."
X-Files creator Chris Carter is quoted as saying that "[Gish's character, now officially Agent Monica Reyes] is quite unlike any of the other agents. She has been neither a firm believer nor a major skeptic, either."
Adding a little spice to the mix, in that way that television series always seem to do, the new agent has some sort of personal history with Patrick's Doggett, the addition of whose character has been widely credited with rejuvenating The X-Files this season. Gish's first episode will be broadcast on February 25, 2001.
In the casting announcement, Carter made it clear that the new character is not a replacement for Dana Scully or anyone else. According to the article in the Reporter, "if the show returns for a ninth season, Gish will become a regular, but she will not replace anybody, Carter emphasized. 'It seems to me that we have benefited from the addition of Robert Patrick to the cast, and we're hoping that we can expand the cast even further and as successfully with Annabeth.'"
JUST WHO IS ANNABETH GISH?
(borrowed from x-files.about.com)
Annabeth (real name Anne Elizabeth) Gish, came into the spotlight in the films Desert Bloom (1986) and Mystic Pizza (1988), which also starred a then unknown Julia Roberts. Her other major film roles have been in Wyatt Earp (1994), The Last Supper (1995), Nixon (1995), and Double Jeopardy (1999).
Though she has been a large number of TV movies, her only prior series work was in the short-lived 1995 CBS series Courthouse and as a guest star in a 1996 episode of Chicago Hope.
Birth date: March 13, 1971
Birth place: Albuquerque, New Mexico; also resided in Cedar Falls, Iowa during her growing up years
Height: 5 feet, 8 inches
College: Duke University (BA, English, 1993)
Awards: Nominated for Young Artist Awards in 1989 and 1990
THE LONE GUNMEN-WATCH THIS SHOW OR ELSE!
The February 25th episode of the X-Files will be part one of a three part mytharc that will leave us with a cliffhanger. Then for four Sundays afterwards, Fox and 1013 Productions will premiere the first four episodes of "The Lone Gunmen." It will star those kooky characters Byers, Langley and Frohike from the X-Files. I really do not know too much of what the series will be about but there are three concerns that I've heard raised. One is that the writers for the show are trying to make Byers into Mulder. Also, how will X-Files fans welcome this new series and give it a try when we really just want to see what happens in the next two mytharc episodes of the X-Files. And, lastly, there are chances of this project wrecking a ninth season of the X-Files. How so? Well, The Lone Gunmen seem to be getting no publicity as of yet on Fox. Of course, it may be a little early. But it is rumored that Chris Carter is still sore over losing Harsh Realm and Millennium to bad ratings because of no publicity. It seems that if this series tanks, Chris might just drop Fox and the X-Files and perhaps save future scripts for movies. I personally would rather see an hour of the X-Files every Sunday than to see two hours of it every couple of years. So X-Philes-watch this show! The future of the X-Files might just be weighed on how well it does!!
SUREKILL
Episode Summary: A marksman with X Ray vision is killing people, and oddly, two exterminators are involved.
I thought that this week’s episode was good...but it could have been better. It seems to me that CC is just trying to make halfway decent shows to tide us over until Mulder returns (which will be soon!! WOO HOO!!) Randall reminded me way too much of a combination of Donnie Pfaster from "Irresistible" and "Orison" and Roland from "Roland" He was creepy, but good hearted (even though the good hearted part doesn't apply to Pfaster) Over all, the concept was good, but it could have played out a lot better.
Scully and Doggett didn't seem to be at each other's necks as much, but that was probably because neither one of them were put in any real danger in this episode. Is this one of the few episodes this season that didn't end with Doggett picking Scully up at the hospital? I'm still hanging in there though...only a few more weeks...and it will be worth the wait!
SHIPPER'S CORNER*
From HOLLYWOOD A.D.:
SCULLY: Been looking all over for you.
MULDER: (sadly) They got it so wrong, Scully.
(SCULLY sighs and sits, taking some of his popcorn.)
SCULLY: I got a page from the Washington Bureau. Micah Hoffman was murdered tonight. Murdered in his own home by Cardinal O'Fallon who then hanged himself. A murder-suicide.
MULDER: It's Jesus and Judas, Scully.
SCULLY: Wow... It's all over now.
MULDER: No, no, it's just beginning. Hoffman and O'Fallon were these complicated, flawed, beautiful people and now they'll just be remembered as jokes because of this movie. The character based on O'Fallon is listed in the credits as "Cigarette-Smoking Pontiff." How silly is that?
SCULLY: Pretty silly.
MULDER: Yeah, what about us? How are we going to be remembered now 'cause of this movie?
SCULLY: Well, hopefully, the movie will tank.
MULDER: What about all the dead people who are forever silent and can't tell their stories anymore? They're all going to have to rely on Hollywood to show the future how we lived and it'll all become... oversimplified and trivialized and Cigarette-Smoking Pontificized and become as plastic and meaningless as this stupid plastic Lazarus Bowl.
SCULLY: I think the dead are beyond caring what people think about them. Hopefully we can adopt the same attitude.(suppressing a laugh, she smiles at him) You do know that there aren't real dead people out there, right? That this is a movie set?
MULDER: The dead are everywhere, Scully.
SCULLY: Well... We're alive. And we're relatively young and Skinner was so tickled by the movie..
MULDER: I bet he was...
SCULLY: That he has given us a Bureau credit card to use for the evening.
(She holds up the card and giggles. He smiles.)
SCULLY: Come on.
(She takes his arm and helps him up. Together, they run down the steep slope of the hill to a path.)
SCULLY: Mulder, I have something to confess.
MULDER: What's that?
SCULLY: I'm in love with Associate Producer Walter Skinner.
(They both laugh, and MULDER dumps the half-full bowl on top of a small statue's head.)
MULDER: Ah... Me, too.
(Holding hands, they walk out of sight past the moonlit backdrop. The wind from the fan causes one of the branches on a tree to dip down and scratch again the plastic bowl. It sounds like a record player needle. Then, as the shadows of MULDER and SCULLY pass on out of view, the music begins and undead figures rise up from the graves and begin to dance passionately and happily, cha-chas and tangos. The green screen in the background changes to a graveyard continuing the scene from the foreground. A full moon glows.]

SNOGGER’S COLUMN
By: ~ddga4ever~ <ddga4ever@edsamail.com.ph>
Hey everyone! How's your Christmas? I haven't received a single TXF stuff but a friend of mine gave me a copy of Playing By Heart!! YAHOO! Go GILLIE! She's great..a great kisser! :D
New Year begins with New Life and of course NEW NEWS FOR ALL OF SNOGGERS OUT THERE!!!!
Because of the busy schedule I have lately due to the preparation I made especially with our Grand Reunion with my fellow Filipino X-Philes, I didn't have the chance to login on the net to have a peek at the latest news.
NOTE: I WILL LEAVE THE JUDGEMENT INTO YOUR HANDS...
According to Agent_Rain (you’ve probably seen her nick in the Fan Forum under FanFic), Blue Piper has the latest photo of DD and GA together...but still a prohibited photo...sorry :( I said to Agent_Rain that Blue Piper may release those photos if DD and GA are talk about their relationship.
According to Rain, sometime in May 2001, DD and GA will speak out! Everyone in the snogger message board (all of us that were registered) thinks that they will be speak out after the airing of X-Files in May.
One of the Tabloids said DD and his wife, Téa Leoni, went to a marriage counselor...whoa! Is their relationship a sinking boat? Let me check with some of my old snogger files here in my computer...Ok. According to the file, my fellow X-Phile and Snogger, Batchie, said that DD is having a marital problem with Téa. According to Blue Piper, with her last talk with David, she asked David if he does plan on filing for divorce. David said that he does have a plan but not on this time to mess up the relationship. Do you see any connection? Or do you
see the future? If the counseling doesn't work for both of them, I could say that this will lead to the filing of divorce papers. Poor Madeleine.
I guess I better stop here. There will be more sharing...IN THE NEXT ISSUE...CYA!
SNOGGERS Quote: (David Duchovny)
Q: Do you get along well with Gillian Anderson?
DD: Yes!! Isn't that visible?? ;-)
Q: With whom do you get along best on the X-Files set?
DD: Gillian most likely; we spend a lot of time together...
And I want to make a correction with the GA quote in Issue 3
GA:"In the past, I've gone towards dangerous men. I wouldn't consider
Tom Cruise dangerous. I DO think David Duchovny is dangerous."
Sorry for the mistake. It will never happen again.
*Questions are warmly accepted...so email me if you have any :D *

Endless Love
Scully to Mulder
by: ~ddga4ever~
When I'm alone and have nothing to do
There are times when I think of you
I want you to know, you're in my heart
And I hope we'll never be apart
I always wish that you were here
For us to share our love sincere
I'll take care of you always and that I swear
I want you to know that I love you
And I pray that you love me too
I cherished the moments that I've shared with you
The moments when I said that I do love you
I want you here beside me
To share my love endlessly
And I'm certain, as certain as I can be
That you are someone very special to me.

"What’s This Deal with the Oil and the Corn and the Bees?"
An X-Files scenario that explains everything
(more or less)
by Mike Marek
Visit the X-Files Timeline Site
http://www.usd.edu/~mmarek/xf
Nobody can read Chris Carter’s mind about how the continuity of The X-Files fits together. Some people have wondered whether he has a consistent vision of how it all works. A close examination of the mythology arc episodes, however, plus those few statements that have been made on the subject by Carter, produces a picture that, if not definitive, at least holds together, in my opinion.
Here, then, is my interpretation of the core of The X-Files mythology arc:
A virus, also known as the Black Oil, appeared on Earth millions of years ago. It may have evolved here. More likely it arrived by meteor or some other means. It has been said that it was the first intelligence to "walk the planet." The virus, looking in its natural form like oil, has the ability to enter other living things and take over their bodies. As a result, the virus must be considered to be intelligent.
Another group of aliens, these humanoid, also arrived long ago, in excess of 35,000 years ago. The Black Oil apparently took control of some or all of these aliens. One group of the aliens left (probably under the control of the virus) and others remained on Earth, in hibernation in various secret underground locations. Now, the main body of aliens is returning in a colonization force. Their advance party is here and has been working with the Consortium (a.k.a. the Syndicate) for over 50 years. Their goal is to take over the bodies of the entire human race, a kind of slavery from which there would be no escape. It seems likely that this second group of aliens represents what is commonly called the "Grey Aliens," under the control of the virus.
Intelligence agencies first learned of the aliens at Roswell, NM in 1947 and of the colonization plans in 1973. Powerful men of many governments around the world realized they had no way to stop the colonization. Instead they formed their own organization and negotiated an agreement with the advance group of aliens – in exchange for assistance from the Consortium, the members of the Consortium and their families would be protected and not occupied by the Black Oil.
The method given to them by the alien Colonists was a plan to create a human-alien hybrid that would be immune to the virus. Once a successful hybrid was developed, the members of the Consortium could be given gene therapy to also make them hybrids. The Consortium used the code name "Purity Control" for this plan. German and Japanese scientists who had performed unethical research on humans during World War II were employed to continue their work in the Purity Control project. The extensive work in cloning and the use of abductees as sources of genetic material was all part of this effort. For some reason, the aliens were not able to conduct the DNA research and development themselves. They provided information and guidance to the research efforts of the Consortium. This supervision included fairly direct involvement of alien "Bounty Hunters." Luckily for the human race, the genetic techniques required were far in advance of human skill in the 1950s. The Colonists were apparently content to wait, possibly because most of them were in suspended animation.
For some members of the Consortium, at least, this cooperation was a sham – a delaying tactic to allow time to develop a defense against the invasion. Enormous resources were put into an effort to develop a vaccine against the Black Oil virus. This vaccine, if it could be developed, would both protect humans from being invaded by the virus and would expel the virus from people who were already inhabited.
The alien plan, however, also had hidden agendas. Humans, once enslaved, would be used to gestate Grey aliens, a process that would result in genocide because the process kills the human host. The Greys, apparently also the source of the DNA used for the hybridization experiments, were seemingly more preferable to the intelligent virus, possibly because the Greys have powers not possessed by humans, such as the ability to shapechange and extraordinary mental powers. While many of the human abductees were experimented on and released, others were taken to secret alien installations, such as the ship buried beneath the ice in the Antarctic, and turned over to the Colonists. The Consortium may have thought that these abductees were to be infected and serve as the army of invasion, but in reality they were infected as hosts for incubation of more Grey aliens, then frozen until the time was right for their hatching.
The Corn and the Bees were another element of this plan, although their role is unclear. The Consortium may have told the Colonists that bees carrying the virus could infect humans, or that the bees could insert the virus into the corn during polonization. The Consortium may also have hoped that the corn could be used to distribute the vaccine around the world. It is interesting to note that bees do not pollinate corn; this may have been an elaborate deception used by the Consortium to misdirect the Colonists.
The Consortium had begun as a covert alliance of intelligence operatives, managing the research and covering-up the work of Purity Control. Over the years, however, the Consortium became a shadow organization, accumulating power and influence across international borders. By 1990, the operation ceased to have members accountable to any one government. Their only chain of command was their own internal structure. Conrad Strugholdt, a German industrialist who had fled his homeland to Northern Africa, became their acknowledged leader.
It is possible that the Cigarette Smoking Man was one of those members of the Consortium who was not ready to surrender to the Colonists, but who rather was ready to go to any length to hinder their invasion. While his motivations and agendas are far from clear, it is possible to interpret his actions as working within the Consortium to defeat the Colonists, and to undermine those members of the Consortium who were ready to collaborate.
To protect against exposure, the Consortium employed methods of disinformation, using covert control of government agencies to hide their work. They also, at times, used agents of the Colonists themselves – the alien Bounty Hunters. Directly involving the aliens like this was dangerous. They could help to stem a leak or threat but they also, at any moment, might discover the secret that the Consortium was working to develop the vaccine. Discovery of this threat by the aliens would certainly speed up the timetable for colonization and likely result in the deaths of all of the members of the Consortium.
For the Consortium, the ends came to justify the means. Their secret symbolized the only hope they had of avoiding enslavement when the planet was overtaken – certainly for themselves, and some of them hoped for the rest of the human race.
Into this critical scenario came several new factors in the 1990s.
1. A new group of aliens arrived at Earth, ready to contest the colonization of the Black Oil. Who they are and what their own agendas may be are poorly understood. They are ruthless, however, in opposing the Black Oil, often killing humans rather than allow them to be taken by the Bounty Hunters. It is possible that the Consortium came into contact with these aliens as well, but may not have realized for some time that they were a separate group. (One possibility is that this second group is made up of Greys who are not controlled by the virus.)
2. Agent Mulder discovered The X-Files and, with his partner, Agent Scully, began putting pressure on the Consortium, threatening to expose Purity Control.
3. The Consortium was shocked to learn that Grey aliens could incubate inside humans. After years of acceptance of the Colonist’s plan at face value, the Elders began to suspect that they had been deceived.
4. The Russians developed a weak vaccine that had some effectiveness against the virus, but it seems that the Consortium was unsuccessful in reproducing it.
5. Research efforts finally developed a successful human-alien hybrid, Cassandra Spender.
The success with Cassandra triggered a cascade of events. The Colonists were thus ready to move ahead and the Consortium had to admit defeat. As had been agreed so many years before, the members and their families gathered in an aircraft hangar to be taken into protection by the Colonists. When the aliens arrived, however, they were the "new" aliens and the members of the Consortium were killed, rather than let them be taken by the Black Oil.
Where things stand now are far from clear.
The invasion did not begin immediately. Possibly the Black Oil aliens are uncertain how to proceed, since their human collaborators are now dead.
Mulder has now been taken by aliens. Which group of aliens is Mulder with, the Colonists or the "new" aliens? In Russia, Mulder was infected by the Black Oil and had the virus expelled by the vaccine. Scully has also been infected and had the virus expelled. This would make both of them virtually unique to the two groups of aliens.
The Cigarette Smoking Man received a tissue transplant from Mulder, one that his body apparently tried to reject. Some immunity to the virus may have transferred to him. Does Mulder have any alien DNA in him? Alien hybrids, remember, have enormous regenerative powers. If the Smoking Man also received alien DNA from Mulder, he may well recover from being pushed down the stairs.
This is where the new season of The X-Files begins. In the past, we have several times thought that we were going to get "all the answers" in The X-Files. Unfortunately, we have usually ended up with more questions than we had answers.
