THE TRUTH

Vol. 1 Issue 1

Editorial

Hello Fellow X-Philes and new subscribers! Welcome to the first issue of The Truth! Thank you for subscribing and giving us a chance. This is new to me and I hope to give you all an interesting read. It has been a strenuous task getting this newsletter together. First, I had to make myself a website and then assemble the writers. We have a couple of good writers this week. Next week, another two will be joining, but there is always room for more. Anyway, all of a sudden, my e-mail didn’t work! CollegeClub.com changed its look, which only now seems to work with Internet Explorer users. I use Netscape so I was a little peeved. But I lost it when my computer crashed. Everything was lost and is yet to be recovered! But, with help from friends on the net and at home, I was able to get the newsletter going! You know who you are and I thank you! Anyway, here we go! I hope you enjoy.

KRYCEK ON THE BIG SCREEN

Nick Lea stars in 'Vertical Limit,' which hits theatres on Dec. 8th. The film also stars Chris O'Donnell, Bill Paxton, and Scott Glenn.

BOWMAN TO DIRECT WILLIS

X-Files director Rob Bowman has signed on the dotted line to direct Bruce Willis in the 4th installment of the Die Hard movie series. Bowman, who directed the X-Files feature film has agreed to follow John McTiernan and Renny Harlin and direct Willis in his most famous role, Detective John McClane. Apparently, Bowman and Willis have already agreed to the story for the film. Seems Willis will pursue mercenaries that have kidnapped his son.

MARCH MADNESS, LITERALLY

Sandy Grushow, head of Fox Entertainment chief, recently let it be known that during the month of March 2001, The X-Files will disappear from the air. Its spinoff series brethren, The Lone Gunmen, will be given four weeks of exposure in the popular Sunday 9PM ET time period. For some very entertaining mediaspeak, take a look at this quote by John Rash, chief broadcast negotiator for Campbell Mithum Esty, who was asked to explain why FOX would risk a shake up in its solid Sunday evening schedule.

Rash said, "The single most important element of Fox's stabilization in the new season is the re-emphasis on the Fox brand of edgy, younger-skewing alternative dramas and sitcoms."

It would appear that they feel The Lone Gunmen falls into said category. The X-Files will return to its normal time period on Sunday April 1, 2001.

YOU CAN FIND THE TRUTH...ON DVD

The complete season two of The X-Files will be available on DVD, Tuesday, the 28th. It can be pre-ordered through many online vendors such as

Amazon.com, which is selling the package for $89.99. According to Haven (http://idealists.simplenet.com/hftfbismu/), some philes have reported spotting the box set already on store shelves...

PATIENCE 8x03

Tonight's episode, Patience, definitely went back to the originals roots of The X Files. The dark over tones, monster of the week storyline, and twists and surprises definitely kept me interested. This was a first for the show though. This was the first episode that David Duchovny was not listed in the credits, but I was happy that Gillian Anderson got top billing.

Over all, I really liked this episode. Scully was trying a bit too hard to be Mulder, but for good reason. Scully was trying to keep Mulder's memory alive by thinking the way that he would. He used to be in charge. He was the one that called all the shot and he was the one that everyone comes down on. People expected crazy, out there conspiracies and theories from Mulder, but not Scully. Now she's in charge and she has to defend her own beliefs and at the same time try to hold on to what Mulder had tried for so many years to preserve. This way she could still keep him a part of the X Files and in her heart.

Doggett is definitely not as bad as I expected. I kind of even like the guy. He's just trying to do his job and is definitely coming around to the fact that everything isn't cut and dry. After all, he was the first person to come up with the theory that a human bat was killing the people, by finding that article and showing it to Scully. Even though they have very different investigative techniques, I think that eventually they will learn from each other and learn to work together. This was only their first "official" case together.

There was a lot of significance when Scully put Mulder's nametag in the drawer at the end of the show. I think she is finally starting to realize that Mulder isn't coming back for a while and she has to start living her life without him and realize that she does need Doggett's help now. She realized the she is not invincible and that she can't do everything on her own. I also wonder if the ending was a bit of foreshadowing. Are they really marked to be hunted by the human bat now too?? I guess we'll have to wait and see!

SHIPPER'S CORNER*

Each week I will pick one shippy quote or scene from a show from one of the last 7 seasons. This week it's the Hallway scene from

The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati

SCULLY: (about to cry) I don't know what to believe anymore. Mulder, I was so determined to find a cure to save you that I could deny what it was

that I saw and now I don't even know... I don't know... I don't know what the truth is ... I don't know who to listen to. I don't know who to trust.

(Pause. She is now crying.)

SCULLY: Diana Fowley was found murdered this morning. I never trusted her... but she helped save your life just as much as I did. She gave me

that book. It was her key that led me to you. I'm sorry... I'm so sorry. I know she was your friend.

(She puts her arms around his shoulders and they hold each other.)

MULDER: Scully, I was like you once-- I didn't know who to trust. Then I... I chose another path... another life, another fate, where I found my

sister. The end of my world was unrecognizable and upside down. There was one thing that remained the same.

(He holds her face and gazes at her.)

MULDER: You... were my friend, and you told me the truth. Even when the world was falling apart, you were my constant... my touchstone.

SCULLY: And you are mine.

(They move their faces close together ... and SCULLY kisses him on the forehead. Not a peck. A very nice, sweet, long kiss. They pull slightly

apart, still touching. SCULLY puts his ball cap back on his head and cups his face in her hands. They look at each other with every bit of trust,

friendship, respect, love, and whatever else these two have for each other. Then she touches his lips gently with her fingers and leaves. MULDER

stands in the doorway and closes his eyes.)

X-PHILE SPEAKOUT!!

X-Treme X-Phile here with this week's Speakout! Everyone I did get a chance to speak with concerning 'Patience,' had strong opinions on it. The big thing obviously was the Doggett/Scully chemistry...er, or rather the supposed chemistry Carter wants us to see between them. Anyhow, here are this week's Speakouts. And don't forget to send me your opinions each week at XphileSpeakout@columnist.com. Everyone's opinion counts!

Shipperchick:

I liked it!! I liked the theme of it, I love the creepy ep's almost as much as the Mytharcs. But Doggett and Scully just don't have it yet. I think that she wants to trust him, but something in the back of her mind tells her not to and that shows. I think that as the season progresses they will work together better. RP is a great actor but Doggett just doesn't fit into The X-Files! I'm looking forward to Roadrunners, but it’s hard to be excited without Mulder!!!!!!!!

Jan:

This ep was lousy. Of course, any ep that doesn't include Mulder or a few minutes showing Scully searching for Mulder or information regarding him is going to such in my opinion. The X-Files won't be back until Mulder is back. This whole situation could have been avoided if CC & Co. had just made the new character someone who could clearly have NO possible romantic relationship with Scully. Also, the new character should never have been promoted by bad-mouthing Mulder. And now you have turned Scully into someone who can forget about Mulder in 2 weeks and go merrily on her way.

Robin:

I did not care for "Patience" at all, even though I rather like the Doggett character. I do not like the "new" Scully (can she get those blouses any tighter?) and the lack of continuity drives me nuts: Gee, Mulder is missing so let's get you a desk John, put Foxy's nameplate in the drawer and go hunt monsters. I did not find bat-man "scary" since he was more seen than imagined and the flight over the tombstones was just too ludicrous. Although the technical delivery (mood, lighting) was excellent, I found the character interaction to be dull and the plot predictable. And finally, if that little exchange about the flashlight was intended as humor, somebody please tell Carter to wait until Duchovny returns. Maybe next week will be more palatable, since I hear Vince did the writing for Roadrunners.

xallthingsx:

Thought the story line was strong, but the Scully/Doggett partnership seemed forced, or at least their interactions were. She really is trying to like him, and that is how it came off on screen...she is really trying.

X-Treme X-Phile:

After seeing 'Within,' and 'Without,' I was truly beginning to think this Doggett guy was all right. 'Without' really was the episode where I said, "Hey, maybe this guy's gonna be alright after all." Alas, that opinion lasted a mere week. 'Patience' gave me a bit of a sour taste in my mouth for the man. That's not to say I completely dislike him, I just don't care for him as much as I was beginning to. Then there's Scully. Oh what has Carter done to our dear Dana? It almost seems as though we have lost two people rather than just one. I do applaud her for making the leaps that she has toward believing, I really do. But, she is almost appearing fake. Just when you think she is firm in Mulder's 'I Believe camp,' she says, "I've seen things that I cannot deny." It’s almost as if she has one foot in the skeptic pool, and one almost in the believer pool. I'm not sure if she is afraid or if it’s something else. Makes me wonder if when Mulder does indeed return, will she firmly grasp her science again??? Bottom line, it’s going to be a long eleven episodes, unless something extremely dramatic occurs...and I'm not even convinced that would help.

Mulder, that's what we need.
