Here is a sample of recent Haiku work from the fourth grade.
Haiku: an ancient form of Japanese poetry that is usually about nature.  It is a 3 lined unrhymed poem that has a special pattern.  The first line must have 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables and the third line has 5 syllables. 
Fourth graders wrote about the sun and moon.

Sun Haikus
The sun has sunspots.
It is a very big star.
It is burning hot.


Explosive sunspots.
Solar flares are powerful
It can hurt your eyes.

Sun is really hot.
The sun shoots big solar flares.
It is made of gas.

Moon get light from sun
Millions of miles away.
It is very hot.

It is a bright star. 
Impossible place to go.
Hot star burns brightly.

Sun has solar flares.
It is not the biggest star.
There are some sunspots.

Sun is very hot.
Ninety-three million miles.
A big ball of gas.

Sun is very hot.
Do not look look into the sun.
It will stay in place.

Moon Haikus
Moon is far away.
It reflects light from the sun.
It is made of rock.

It is made of rock.
The moon is not made of cheese.
It orbits the earth.

The moon has craters.
There is no water on moon.
There's no life on it.

The moon is lifeless.
It has no food and water.
Moon rocks are so cool.

Closer than the sun.
Asteroids make dents on moon.
Footprints are still there.

The moon is little. 
Lunar eclipses are cool.
People went to it.

The moon is hard rock.
Huge meteors crash in it.
The moon has craters.

The moon is a rock.
The moon is close to the earth.
It doesn't have wind.
