Erikson: initiative vs guilt (3-6 years)
   Kids become planning, enterprising, ambitious when parents support their activities
   Guilt comes from overly strict superego when parents ask too much self-control

Self-concept:
   Objective self based on concrete, observable characteristics

Emotional self: can interpret, predict, and change other's feelings
   Improved emotional control; use adults as role models
   Increased self-conscious emotions if observed by others
      Development of prosocial behaviors: empathy and sympathy if social, good emotional regulators, and positive role models
