Chapter 14

Erikson:
Intimacy vs isolation: try to reconcile needs for independence (or sacrifice self-respect) and intimacy (or loneliness and self-absorption)
Generativity vs stagnation may start in early adulthood as well: guide next generation and serve as mentors; care for others

Levinson's life structure: roles, relationships, conflicts, and balances
Alternate periods of instability (transition) and stability

Era of early adulthood (17-45 years old)
      Novice stage (17-33 years old)
Define dream of what adult accomplishment is: realistic and inspiring; focused on career for males
         Find mentor
         Develop career
         Establish intimacy
Age 30 transition: reevaluate life structure and try to adjust to difficulties; settle down

For women, dreams are split between career and marriage; feel sacrificed one aspect of their dream
Maybe difficult to find a female mentor or role model; males may feel threatened
         Develop career later
Age 30 transition: reverse their priorities
