Social self:
   Friendships more exclusive; based on mutual trust and support
      Cooperate better with friends than nonfriends
      More concerned about resolving issues

   Social status:
      Popular kids: more attractive; communicate in positive, supportive, and non aggressive ways; take others into consideration; regulate emotions
      Rejected-withdrawn: realize are rejected because different, shy => passive, socially awkward, submissive => victimization by others
      Rejected-aggressive: uncooperative, deficient in social understanding, unable to control emotions; more accepted in boys
      Neglected kids: generally well-adjusted; girls may become more depressed because are not popular

   Gender stereotyping:
      Gender most important selection criterion for friends
      Cultural and parental values: choices of toys, expectations in the classroom
         More tolerant of girls crossing gender lines
