Chapter 3: Perception

Connectionist models have been very popular in modeling word processing.
     The input units encode the individual features.
     Through practice and feedback, different connections are established between the different units.
     The output units give a response when activation in the model reaches a certain threshold.

Echoic memory combines phonemes into larger, more meaningful units (morphemes)
     Believed to last about 4 seconds
     Erasure and interference depends on the nature of the information (the more alike, the more interference)
     Template models don't work because of the problem of invariance
     Conceptually-driven processing is crucial in putting features together.
