Chapter 10: Comprehension

Levels of language:
Phonology: sounds and rules for combining them
Importance of context and conceptually-driven processes
Problem of invariance: sounds vary a lot but are still recognized as the same phonemes.
No relation between pauses and the end of words
Coarticulation: each phoneme changes the articulation of other phonemes

     Syntax: grammatical rules, word order

     Semantic: meaning of words
Garden-path sentences: develop certain expectations based on assigned case roles.

Different kinds of aphasias and other disorders show the validity of the modular view of the brain
Synchronization between the different brain regions is crucial

Conceptual level: compare interpretation of ambiguous sentences to semantic knowledge
