Chapter 7: Semantic Memory

Semantic memory is neworks of related terms

Spreading activation: resources are distributed among related terms in a semantic network
     Fan effect: the more connections to other terms, the less activation is received by each term
     Connections of different strengths from experience
    
Priming is the more basic form of retrieval in memory: activation of related concepts
Lexical decision task: primes, targets, Stimulus Onset Asynchrony.
     Priming is automatic
     Can also use conscious resources to enhance priming
Negative priming: ignoring a distractor leads to slower reaction time when it is later presented as a target
