Chapter 8: Integration of Episodic Memory and Semantic Memory

Schema/Script: general framework about a situation

Activation of schema makes information meaningful as it puts it in context
A schema can also bias understanding as information is fit to it: memory is constructive
We also rely on schema to recall information: memory is reconstructive
A schema is useful to make inferences based on its default values

Memory is integrative: Bransford and Franks (1971)
Integrated sentences were falsely recognized as having been presented before
Confidence is not a good way to know whether memory is real
Source memory: where we heard the information
Processing fluency: information can stand out in memory for a variety of reasons
