Chapter 5: Working Memory

The slave systems of working memory are the sites of effect in Posner and Petersen's model.

The visuospatial sketchpad processes low-level visual and spatial information.
It has a fairly independent but limited pool of attentional resources.
Can draw resources from the central executive if needed.

Use of dual tasks:
The more difficult the secondary task, the poorer the performance on the secondary task.
The more simila the tasks, the poorer the performance.

The phonological loop processes basic verbal information
It is not limited in terms of space (bottleneck metaphor) but in terms of resources
Chunking uses fewer resources through top-down processing, but it is an effortful process
