Styling tips and cleaning your MLP

Hair:

Washing: Basically you can wash your pony's hair with the same shampoo you use. Don't forget the conditioner. It will make the hair more manageable while combing it out.

Styling:
For straight hair-- To keep the straight sheen in your pony's hair comb it straight while wet and let it dry like that, then run through again with a comb.
To make the mane curl around the neck of the pony like it was new, you can also tape a band of paper around the neck to hold the hair in place while it's drying.
For the tail, take one of the pony curlers or one of your own that is 1/4" to 1/2" in diameter and curl just the tip of the tail so that it curls under.

For curly hair-- For large curls you can use the pony curlers on small sections of hair while wet.
For the original size of the curl, I found that a regular pencil is the perfect size for the curl and secure with bobby pins
The pony's mane originally curled up toward the head and not curled under.
For the long spiral curls, make sure that you wrap the hair in a spiral on the pencil or it will look like a regular curl.

Products for Styling-- Use a small amount of leave-in conditioner and mix it with water in a small spray bottle so that the solution is watered down. This solution does not leave a thick build up in the hair. Spray this on the part of hair you are working with and style as wanted. I don't recomend hair spray as it will leave a build up over time and will flake off.

De-frizzing:
This is the important part since most rescued ponies have severely frizzed hair. I found this tip from "Sail Away" I don't know who told her, but it works great.

Products--Get the detangler product "Aussie Slip" This is the most effective product as I have not seen others like it.
1. Clean pony's hair as instructed above
2. Work in a very small amount of the detangler into the wet hair.
3. Section off hair into small combed sections.
4. With a hot curling iron (won't melt hair, I've tried), move slowly from the base of the hair to the tip 2-3 times. Only the water in the hair will sizzle on the iron not the detangler solution..
5. Repeat for the other sections of the hair and make a final sweep with the iron on the  large section.

The hair will be smoother and easier to work with while styling. Please note that this will not completely cure the "can't get a comb through" frizz, but it will reduce the frizz by 50-80%.
