Welcome to my rattitoes' page.  This site is dedicated to the advocating of rats as pets.  I hope your visit here helps to dispell any icky notions you may have in order to see them as the lovely and cuddly little babies they are.
First, let me tell you a little bit about my rat experience.  I have been keeping rats for more than ten years now.  I currently have ten permenant rats and at any given time I could have any number of foster rats.  I started my rat experiences with one rat.  She died rather quickly.  I now know that rats need to be kept in pairs at least.
At first, my plan was to keep two rats at a time.  When one of the girls in my first pair passed away, I decided to get the next pair to keep her company.  Little did I know that the pet store didn't separate my new girls from the boys soon enough.  I am often suprised that people don't understand the ramifications of keeping boys and girls together.  Since Liberty was only a baby herself, she only gave birth to 4 babies (instead of 12-20).  Since one died of megacolon, I decided to keep the other three for myself.
And my mischeir kept spiralling.  In order to properly raise the babies, I joined
The Rat Fan Club and The Goosemoose Forum in order to learn from experienced rat owners.
While, there, I delved into the wonderful world of rats and adopted a few more rescues. When I moved back to PA, I joined the Pittsburgh Rat Lovers' Club
As a teacher of Biology, they made excellent classroom pets.  We even rescued a pair of pregnant females and found homes for thier babies - all 24 of them!
