Xena's Finale Dominates Ratings
July 16, 2001

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Xena: Warrior Princess" kicked up a ratings storm with the show's last original telecast, hitting a 3.9 rating, up 22% week-to-week, according to Nielsen Media Research data for the week ending July 1.

The finale, in which Xena literally loses her head, drew sufficiently high levels of viewers to elevate it to the No. 1 slot among all first-run action hours for the week ending July 1. "Xena's" 3.9 average audience household rating outperformed the "Hercules" series finale in November 1999 by 5% - despite airing at the height of summer, when viewer levels are typically lower.

Magazine shows with their day-and-date coverage managed to stand out among so many summer repeats. "Entertainment Tonight" (5.4) was up 2%. "Inside Edition" (2.8) was up 4% and tied for second with "Extra" (2.8), which was down 3%. "Access Hollywood" (2.4) was up 4%.
