General Information

In the hotel listings, what was once the Holiday Inn last year is now the Sheraton Pasadena.  This hotel is connected to the Pasadena Center.

There is a tremendous amount of road and building construction going on in Pasadena.  Walking just may be the most efficient form of transportation to and from local restaurants.

For pups who would like more information, or have specific questions, I would encourage you to join (even temporarily) the SoCalPups group. It has very light traffic.  You can ask (and hopefully get answered) questions about the Southern California area, and get answers from folks who actually live there. To join, send an e-mail to: SoCalPups-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Of course, you can find the latest Creation Entertainment information on the Con at: http://www.creationent.com/calendar_frame.html.

I would also like to give my general thanks to Helen for her overall help, SX Meagher for the special entertainment events section, and Karen and Kat for their previous posts on airport shuttles, which have been repeated herein.

How do I get back and forth from the airports?

For those of you catching flights in and out of the area, please allow plenty of time to get to and from your flights. Not only is LA traffic notoriously bad (ask us about our traffic slang sometime ),  but the sheer number of freeways in LA can cause people problems with getting lost.  Also, LAX is a big airport, and you may end up walking a long ways to your plane.

From Karen:

SHERATON PASADENA HOTEL TRANSPORTATION

 FROM BURBANK AIRPORT - 12MI

 - TAXI - APPROX. 25 USD

 - SHUTTLE - SUPER SHUTTLE - 24 HOURS - 1-800-BLUE-VAN

             APPROX. 12.00 USD

FROM LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - 30MI

 - TAXI - APPROX. 60 USD

 - SHUTTLE - AIRPORT BUS - 1-800-772-5299

             APPROX. 14.00 USD

From Kat:

According to the hotel concierge, they recommend that

you contact the Super Shuttle, or Blue Van...

Outside Area Reservations from area codes (815) or (818)

800-829-2305

SuperShuttle

There is an Airport Bus which you can take from LAX to the Pasadena Sheraton.  According to the operator at the Sheraton, there is a bus leaving every two (2) hours starting at 09:15 AM with the last bus leaving at 07:15 PM. You pick it up on the baggage claim level.  The woman said that it doesn't say Sheraton Airport Bus - just Airport Bus with Pasadena as the destination.  The fare is $12 per person [adult or child (3-11)] one-way (they no longer have the $20 round trip fare like they did at last year's con) and you don't need reservations.  The minimum travel time would probably be 45 minutes to an hour, but you never can tell about Lala Land freeway traffic. There is one important fact to remember: the Airport buses run Monday-Saturday. THERE IS NO SERVICE ON SUNDAY.

To get a shuttle from/to Burbank airport from/to the Sheraton is more complicated.  There are two shuttle companies which make runs to the Sheraton: Super Shuttle and Prime Time.

Super Shuttle: This information seems to apply generally: reservations must be made 24 hours in advance and to cancel you need to give them at least 2 hours.  The fare is $14 with no discount for a round trip slip.  The problem is that the Super Shuttle companies are very territorial, so you make reservations in this manner:

To the Pasadena Sheraton from the Burbank Airport:

Call 818-556-6600, the Burbank SS.  They can take you from places in Burbank to other areas.

To the Burbank Airport from the Pasadena Sheraton:

Call 626-443-6600, the Pasadena SS.  They can take you from places in Pasadena to other areas.

It is somewhat confusing but the main thing is to realize that you can't make reservations for round trip transportation with just one Super Shuttle company.

Prime Time: This carrier is easier to deal with.  There is a central number: 800-733-8267, through which you can make reservations.  Reservations are not required from the airports, because Prime Time has a uniformed person (red hat and jacket saying 'Prime Time') outside the airports to assist passengers with procuring a shuttle van.  If you want to use their services to return to an airport, you do need to make a reservation.  The fare is $15 from/to the Sheraton/LAX airport.  The fare is $16 from/to the Sheraton/Burbank airport.

It might take, again, 45 minutes to get from the Burbank Airport to the Sheraton.  It could be less, it could be more depending on the vagaries of traffic.

Where can I find parking?

There are currently three nearby garages to choose from:

1) The Sheraton Pasadena Center complex lot costs $7.00 max. PER ENTRY for non-guests and $7.00 per 24-hour day for hotel guests [can come in and out at will]

The other two garages are privately operated and prices are per entry:

2) The Los Robles lot located at Green and Euclid costs $5.00 max. per day

3) The garage located at Green and Marengo (across from the B of A Headquarters) costs $8.00 max. per day

Other lots:

The Doubletree Hotel lot costs $6.00 max. per entry for non-guests; $6.00 per 24-hour day for guests

The Pasadena Hilton lot costs $12.00 max. per entry for non-guests; $10.00 per 24-hour day for guests

Where/what are the message boards?

There will be at least two (2), maybe three (3), message boards in place.  Right now I have a board for the Sheraton and the Doubletree.  I need to get my hands on another whiteboard/easel combination or an easel [any volunteers?] for placement at the Hilton.  They are to facilitate communication among everyone, so please use them.  I would ask that you (1) erase old messages to make room for new ones and (2) keep track of the markers and erasers for me.  They will be borrowed and I'll have  to return them on Tuesday and redeem my unborn. Thanks.

Disneyland Excursion with the MerwolfPack Pups

Here is our timetable:

08:30 AM – Meet outside the main doors of the Sheraton Pasadena Hotel.  If you have a car and can give someone a ride, please be there.  Maps will be available.

09:30 AM – Main Street opens

10:00 AM – Disneyland Park opens

11:15 AM – Meet at the Golden Horseshoe Stage (Frontierland) for the Billy Hill & The Hillbillies Show at 11:45 AM and then after the show, go directly over to the front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle for a large group photo

06:00 PM - Those wanting a chance to be part of the Parade of Stars will need to meet Marilyn by the bridge on Matterhorn Way.  All others will need to be there by 6:30 to watch our friends

07:00 PM - Parade of Stars

08:00 PM – Although the Park closes at this hour, Main Street remains open until 09:00 PM for shopping.  The second largest Disney store is out where the trams load and unload.  Downtown Disney is open until 02:00 AM

The following Disneyland tips are provided courtesy of Marilyn and Kim:

If you want to be part of the Parade of Stars, make sure you wear tennis shoes.  They do not allow any shoes without straps, i.e. thongs and backless sandals.  :

For those needing wheelchairs, you have two options.  One is the electric wheelchair.  Cost is $50 for the day and upon return, you get $20 back for a final cost of $30.  The regular wheelchair cost $27 for the day and upon return, you get $20 back for a final cost of $7.00.

If you purchase things through the day, do what is called package express.  They will hold your purchase at the main gate.  They say to allow two hours between purchase time and time of departure from Disneyland.

For those with luggage, you can take it to the kennel, which is to the right of the main entrance.  They will hold it for you for free.  There are also computerized SmartCard lockers at the park - one price for the locker for unlimited use (in and out) for the day - you pay for the locker and get a code number that allows access.  There are two (2) sizes and cost $3.00 and $4.00.

Now for some fun:

Kim suggests playing a game that Cast Members of the Disney Company and Disney Collector's Clubs enjoy - it's called a Foot Rally.  The point of the game is to answer as many questions correctly as you can, while playing in the park.

She has put together a list of 25 questions - some easy, some not so easy - all answerable within the boundaries of Disneyland.  And to add to the fun, she will award prizes - some Xena (cards and such) and some Disney (key chains, buttons and such) - to each Pup or each member of a Pup-team who answers at least 15 of the questions correctly.  Here are the questions.  Good luck!!
