Xena and Gabrielle were sitting by a beautiful lake. Gabrielle had been wanting to tell Xena that she loves her more than a friend, but lacked the courage to do so. She decided that she would ask Xena a few indirect questions to find out if she felt the same way. That's why she picked this lake to talk to Xena. She knew that the sound of the waterfall here calmed her, although she never said so. Gabrielle had been around her long enough to tell her moods. She seemed the most relaxed at this spot. After much careful consideration, Gabrielle begins a conversation. " Isn't it beautiful here Xena"?
"Hmm...oh yeah, it's alright."
"What were you just thinking about?"
"Fishing. I bet the temperature is just perfect. I figure I could wade in there a bit and catch us some grub for later."
"Now wait a minute Xena, you promised me we would relax on our day off. I thought it would be nice if we could talk for a while."
"Fishing is relaxing. We could talk and fish?"
"That's not exactly what I had in mind. Could the fishing wait until later. There's something I wanted to talk to you about. It's kind of important."
With a sigh Xena says:"I suppose so. What's up?"
"Well uhh...see,...let's say you had feeling's, strong feeling's for someone, but you're not sure if they feel that way about you. What would you do?" Xena simply replied: "Ask them." Slightly annoyed at Xena's lack of detail Gabrielle continues. "Do you think that you could be a little more insightful than that. It's not that easy to just ask someone if they love you."
"Love? That serious huh? When did this happen...WHO?" She would never admit it but this upset Xena. She fell in love with Gabrielle many moons ago, but decided that she would be no good for her. She was afraid of this day and now would have to face the fact that Gabrielle loved someone else. Trying to remain calm she listened.
"I would rather not say who just yet. I hope you dont mind Xena. Do you?"
"I guess not. I mean it is your business. You can tell me, but I understand if your not ready to talk about details yet."
"Thank you Xena. It's just really hard for me to at the moment. But I promise I will tell you. You have a right....uh I mean...anyway, so what would you do?"
"Well, you could try dropping hints. Tell me something about them so I can give you a good example."
"Well shh....uh how do I explain. Well Xena they are a lot like you."
"How is that? Like how?"
"Strong, independent, but also gentle and needing at the same time."
"You think that i'm needy?"
"No that's not what I meant. Would you not take things so personally Xena...please."
"Fine, but I am not needy."
"I didn't even say needy, I said needing, like needing to be nutured and cared for, even if you are to stubborn to admit it."
"So now i'm stubborn? Gee Gabrielle, what else do you think of me? Maybe it's better that we have this talk. Go on, I believe you left off on stubborn."
"I wasn't trying to hurt your feeling's. You can be so difficult sometimes."
"Was that a polite way for you to say that i'm a pain in the ass? This is unbelievable".
"I cant even talk to you without you twisting things around. I'm not even sure how do it sometimes. By the gods Xena give me a break will ya!"
"That doesn't sound half bad right about now."
"You wouldn't dare!"
"Lucky for you, this stubborn, pain in the ass is needing to walk right now!"
Xena then get's up and walks away.
"
Xena, wait, where are you going? Please dont leave. Oh fine see if I care, go ahead".
Gabrielle stands up and turns the opposite direction from Xena and walks away. Tears welling up in her eyes at yet another failed attempt. The Amazons weren't too far away. She decided to go and talk to Ephiny about her problem with Xena. Ephiny was a good friend and always seemed to know the right thing's to say. She knew that Xena would look for her there eventually when she calmed down.
