“You know, that dogwood was my mom’s favorite tree.” Piper said, pointing to the tree that had fallen. “It’s also the same tree that I told my father would fall down on the house one day during a thunderstorm and my room is right under it. It finally fell, but not against my room.” Erin rubbed the back of her neck. She stopped her hand as she felt a lump. Scully noticed her strange look and looked over to her. Erin’s smiled turned to a frown as she tried to figure out what was in her neck. Piper and Mulder walked towards her, as well. Scully pushed back Erin’s hair and showed the small scar to Mulder. He looked at Piper who took her own hand and wiped the back of her neck. “I have one, too.” Piper said. Mulder went over to Piper and moved her hair so he could see the scar on Piper’s neck as well. He nodded to Scully to signify it was what they thought it was. “What is it?” Erin asked. “It’s a chip that many female abductees get.” Scully explained. “It’s metallic, almost like a computer chip. I had one in my neck when I was abducted.” Scully paused remembering the hard times she had with the chip. The chip led to her getting of cancer and it led to many sleepless nights. “Girls, I have to tell you that removing that chip could cause you to get an incurable disease.” “What kind of disease?” Piper asked. Scully couldn’t continue. “Cancer.” Mulder responded. Piper and Erin looked at each other. “I guess we won’t be getting it removed any time soon, then.” Erin said laughing. Piper smiled and began to laugh, as well. “Let’s go downstairs.” Piper suggested. Erin followed Piper into the house. Mulder and Scully followed the two girls. Mulder looked to Scully and saw the same pain in her eyes that she had when she found out she had cancer. Piper walked into the kitchen as Lynn walked down the stairs. She had sleep in her eyes and she was still dressed in her pajamas. “Piper, did you hear all that commotion?” Lynn asked, rubbing her eyes. “Yea…it was just the neighbors having a party.” Piper answered. Erin looked at her strangely and they both began to giggle. “Go back to bed, Lynn.” “Okay.” Lynn said. She turned around and walked back up the stairs. Piper, Erin, Mulder, and Scully walked down to the basement. Piper looked around at all of the miscellaneous objects on the floor. All the shelves were empty of things. “This is going to take a lot of work to clean up before my party.” Piper said. “Yea, I guess we’re going to have to scrub the walls after all.” Erin said laughing. “Well, I guess we’ll be going.” Mulder said. He and Scully began to walk back up the stairs to leave the two girls alone. They didn’t know what they could do for the two girls. The mystery was over and there was nothing else to be done. “Agents Mulder and Scully, you’re invited to my New Year’s party if you’d like.” Piper said. “That would be nice, thank you.” Scully said. Chapter 5 December 31, 1999 11:55 PM “Five minutes until the new Millennium.” Max said. Piper took a drink from the cup in her hand. “The last drink I will ever drink before the year 2000, the official drink of the Piper…” “Fruit punch.” All the girls said. There were six girls sitting in Piper’s basement not including Mulder and Scully. Piper, Erin, Candy, Max, Hannah, and Kyla were all sitting on the floor in front of the TV, waiting for the ball to drop. Mulder and Scully were sitting on the couch, each holding a glass of wine. “This is it, guys.” Hannah said. “I’d like to pronounce a toast.” Erin said. She held a can of soda in her hand and she raised it. “To extraterrestrials, to Mulder and Scully, to us. Let us all live through Y2K.” “I just want everyone to know that no matter what happens, no matter how far apart we all move from each other, no matter how old we get, we will always be friends and I will always love you guys.” Piper said. “Very well said.” Kyla said. The girls clinked glasses and cans and smiled. They all stared at the TV, clutching the confetti that each of them had. Piper had spent months before preparing for this one night. She had made an entire brown paper bag stuffed with confetti. Each girl had a plateful. Piper wanted it to be a night to remember. Some of them had noise makers in their mouths while others held them in their hands. “One minute, guys.” Kyla said. Everyone was silent, watching the TV. The girls all stared at each other and Piper and Erin looked back at Mulder and Scully. They smiled, holding confetti in their own hands. “10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Happy New Year!” Everyone screamed. Confetti flew into the air. It covered the ground like a light snow. The noise from the noise makers were unbearable. The girls all drank and hugged, throwing the confetti around everywhere. “Piper, I just sat in your fruit punch!” Kyla yelled, throwing confetti at Candy. Mulder and Scully picked up the entire bag of confetti that was still half full. They walked over to Piper and dumped it on her head. Piper screamed and threw confetti back at them. It went on like that for an hour before everyone stopped. “That was the best New Years ever.” Piper screamed. “Yes indeed.” Mulder said. “Hey, the world didn’t end.” Hannah said, gratefully. “No, not yet anyway.” Max added in. “Yea, but will my computer work?” Candy asked. “Let’s hope so.” Kyla said. “Who cares, as long as we have each other.” Erin said. The girls all laughed and had one huge group hug. The all fell down and smothered each other with confetti. Mulder and Scully looked at each other. Piper motioned for the girls to be quiet and they did. Piper grabbed her camera and watched Mulder and Scully carefully. They leaned towards each other and kissed. It was only a friendly kiss but Piper was happy. She took her camera and snapped a picture. Mulder laughed and threw a pile of confetti in her face. “Hey, I love you guys!” Candy shouted out. “We love you, too!” They all shouted. The girls all laughed and fell onto the floor. They laid there knowing how the new millennium would bring new changes.” Mulder opened his eyes and shot up in bed. His face was covered in sweat. He turned on his bedside lamp and looked at his watch. The date was December 27th. Mulder looked around. “It was a dream.” Mulder whispered to himself. “It was all a dream.” He stood up and walked to his bureau throwing a pair of Jeans on his bed. He quickly slipped them on and then grabbed a shirt from his closet. He put it on and ran out of his apartment. He drove to the FBI Headquarters and went down to his office. Scully was sitting in his office chair. “Scully, what are you doing here?” Mulder asked. She paused. “I had a dream about Piper Alexander and Erin Pierce.” Scully said. “Her playhouse flew away like a flying saucer.” Mulder said. “How did you know, Mulder?” Scully asked. “I had the same dream.” Scully looked at him strangely. She picked up the telephone and dialed a familiar number. After a few rings a female voice picked up. “Alexander.” The voice said. “Piper, it’s Agent Scully. Are you okay?” Scully said. “Yea, why? What time is it?” Piper asked. “It’s about two in the morning. Feel the back of your neck, Piper, is there anything there?” Piper waited a moment before answering. “No, should there be?” Piper asked. “No, have a good night. I’ll call you later and explain.” Scully said. Scully hung up the phone and looked to Mulder. Mulder took a tape recorder out from his drawer and pressed record. “You tell your dream and I’ll tell mine.” Scully began to speak, telling her story. The two agents sat for hours telling each other what they had dreamt about and it was exactly the same, including the kiss at the end. It's all done. I had a great time writing this story. Ashley, sorry for killing your dogs off (hey, it was better than your sister, right?). Anyway, don't have much else to say. Remember to trust no one...except your best friends.
