“It’s the check.” He whispered. Piper turned to Mulder as she heard footsteps coming closer. She stood just in time to greet her four friends walking in. She handed the check to Mulder. “Candy, Erin, Kyla, Max…what are you doing? Where did you come from?” Mulder stuttered. “We did it. We found the check. Piper ran up to her friends and embraced each of them quickly. They were all covered in dirt much like Piper herself but they had it all over their bodies. “What happened?” Candy asked as she took a piece of grass out of her mouth. “You don’t remember?” Mulder responded. “All I can remember is the lights going out and then the doors and windows locking and then suddenly being outside…dirty.” Kyla answered. “Very dirty.” Erin added in. “Piper, what happened?” Max asked. Piper was about to open her mouth when the doorbell rang. Everyone just stared at each other until the doorbell rang again. Mulder, with the check clutched in his hand, finally went to the front door. He looked at Piper as he turned the handle. To his surprise, the door opened. “Scully.” He said, even more surprised. “What are you doing here?” “I was in the neighborhood. What are you doing here?” Scully responded. “I was around.” Mulder answered. They paused for a long moment. “Can I come in, Mulder?” “Of course.” Mulder said stepping aside. She walked in and gaped at the sight of Piper’s friends. “What happened?” Scully asked. “Piper was just going to explain that to us.” Erin said. “You guys might want to take a seat for this.” Piper warned. Everyone sat as requested, though she made her friends sit on the floor due to their lack of cleanliness. She continued to tell her story, not leaving any detail out. “Piper, you expect us to believe that…they turned into plants?” Scully asked. Mulder nodded. “You know, Mulder, I can’t help but believe that you influenced this somehow.” “Hey, Scully, I was the one who thought the leaves on the bathroom floor was a coincidence. She pushed forward.” Mulder said. “I think you’re both insane.” Kyla said. “You may not believe us but how else can you explain y’all being covered in dirt?” Piper asked. “Just because we can’t explain it doesn’t mean that…” Max began. As Max spoke, the lights went off. The room grew pitch black. “This seems familiar.” Erin said. “We’ll get the flashlights.” Mulder and Piper said together. They stood up together and walked out of the room. They began walking towards the garage when they noticed something. The light to the bathroom was on. They both walked over to the bathroom and peered inside. The leaves on the floor had been shuffled around again. This time they spelled out something different. “Thank you.” Mulder read. Piper looked to Mulder and they both smiled as all the lights turned back on. Well, this one's done. You know, having to repaste all these stories all over again is a really big pain but since I don't have anything better to do, it works for me. I had a lot of fun writing this particular story and it didn't really take that long to write. I started writing it after watching "Poltergeist" one night and I was going to make it somewhat of a replica to the movie. After writing half of it I first decided that just re-writing a movie with new characters is not only somewhat of plagerism (sp?) but it's also amoral to me. So then I changed the entire idea and had to start all over again. Well, it was fun and it's very interesting to try to explain. I'd like to thank Breanne, Ashley, Kristin, and Meghan for allowing me to turn them into plants. Most of them got to choose which plant they turned into so don't blame me for those, either. I also hate writing stories without Scully and she was throughout the whole thing at first but it wasn't working for me so I edited her out and chose to do it differently. Anyway, I'm done talking. E-mail me your comments and suggestions. |
