The Alternate, alternate, universe of Gundam, Endless Waltz
Well, most people when watching GW's OAV, they think, "Wow, great OAV." But if you look at it closely, it's actually very weird, especially in the Mecha. Oh sure, the storyline's fine, but there's still a few mysteries in the OAV. This essay will try to point these out.
Okay, first of all, Gundam W in itself is an alternate universe, and perhaps Endless Waltz is the alternate, universe of GW. 0_o Anyway, not to get you confused, one of the biggest changes in Endless Waltz that all of you probably noticed were the Gundams mecha design. They have all been redigned by one of Gundam's greatest designers, Hajime Katoki. But this change causes problems in the storyline. The first time that I saw the OAV, I cringed when I saw the redesigned Gundams battling the White Fang. But this was not the biggest change, since the redesigned versions did represent the original upgraded Gundams. But I winced when I saw Trowa's flashback. The Gundam Heavyarms was clearly the Gundam Heavyarms Kai! It was the redesigned version, but how did Trowa have that even before Operation M? What should have been shown, however, is this:
Gundam Heavyarms Kai (Hajime Katoki version)

Ok, this was the original Heavyarms that Sunrise should have put instead of the Heavyarms Kai. But why? This also happens in the other Gundam pilots flashbacks, and I'll try to explain. Okay, first, in Duo's flashback, we see Duo trying to destory his Deathscythe. But which deathscythe was it that he was trying to destory? Since we don't get a very good good at the MS, we can presume it's the Deathscythe Hell, like what happened in Trowa's flashback. But keep in mind, since you don't get a good look, the Gundam can be one of two other things:
Gundam Deathscythe (Hajime Katoki Version)

Or...
Gundam Deathscythe (TV series version)

I seriously doubt that it's the original TV series one though. But the possibility of it being the redesigned Deathscythe are there. I guess we would have to wait until Sunrise says something about this. Also, this happens in another flashback, where the upgraded version and the original look a lot like, so we couldn't tell if Sunrise did it right or wrong. (Actually, I don't think there is a right or wrong, and they were like that for story porposes.) The Sandrock shown in Quatre's flashback could be the un-upgraded Sandrock instead of the Sandrock Kai. Let me show you a picture.
Gundam Sandrock (Hajime Katoki version)

This is not Sandrock Kai, yet they look almost identical. Also, has Sandrock got Hyper Jammers attached to it's back? It sorta looks like Deathscythe's hyper jammers. Why? To conclude this rather short essay, I think the story is great, but the Mecha part is flawed in Endless Waltz. No doubt about it, Endless Waltz is a wonderful OAV, just with a lot of mysteries hanging about.
