Was Milliardo really that crazy?

Well, lots of people that I know, (including people on the internet) as they talk about the White Fang revolt and Milliardo Peacecraft's role in it, they don't understand the connection between the once chivarous character and the things he did with the White Fang. Well, I think I understand it now that I've seen the series about 30 or 40 times through. ^_^ So now I'm going to write an essay explaining this to the best of my ability.

First of all, you must understand Zechs Merquise to look at the White Fang episodes. His family, that was advocating total pacifism, was destroyed by the Alliance, and he's always wanted revenge. Prehaps he was trying to protect the Sanc Kingdom before, and he lost it. Like Noin says: "A soldier needs something to protect." That's the soldier's fate. Then in eps. 16 we find out that Zechs is Relena's brother and is trying to get revenge on the Alliance, and he wanted to protect Relena and the fact that she was about to revive the Sanc Kingdom. So Milliardo goes out to space in the name of the Sanc Kingdom, and advocates peace. He also battled the mobile dolls that OZ sent to destory the Sanc Kingdom. But nevertheless, the Sanc Kingdom was destoryed in the end, and that left Zechs (or Milliardo) nothing to protect. Then Quenze came by with a deal for Milliardo. Actually, I think, at the time, he didn't really want to revolt for the colonies, but start a war just to imprint it on people's memories so that there won't be another terrible war in the future. And all that talk that he did was just to back up the war. I think till the end, Trieze Kushrenada (the leader of the World Nation) understood what Milliardo was trying to do and I don't think Trieze or Milliardo actually hated each other. They were friends till the end... ;_; How sad... *sniff* Trieze's last words were: "I'll be waiting on the other side...Milliardo..." So I think both Trieze and Zechs understood each other. This further backing my theory.

Also, I think that Milliardo predicted what would happen. He probably knew that the Gundams were going to interfere, and a part of the revolt was to settle things with Heero. I think Heero also saw it this way. Somehow Zechs was able to see what was going to happen, and he revolted, not for the colonies, but for total pacifism and mankind. Noin and Heero were right, although I don't think Noin understood until after her confrontation with Zechs at the end of eps. 47. (Now there's a scene for ya' ^_^) Milliardo was extremely clever and everything turned out the right way, with the Gundams stopping Libra. So my conclusion is that Milliardo was actually quite sane and chivarous till the end, and he had his own plans about the revolt. (Including sacrificing himself for peace at the end of eps. 49) So unlike what other people say about Zechs at the end of the series, I think he was quite right about fighting for total pacifism. He didn't really want to destory the Earth, just to imprint the terrible war on the minds of people. Not even Relena understood him. So he can think on a very deep scale. The ideal qualities of a newtype in the Universal Century Gundam series. So I think Zechs would be a newtype too if there was the theory... Zechs even sounds like Char's father in eps 42 (I think) when he talks about how the colonists were a new type of humans... He was talking about the newtype theory. But we won't get into that in this essay. ^_^

Now, some people also wonder about Dorothy at the end of the series. She is not "evil" and quite sane also till the end of the series. Her stance is the same as Milliardo's as to the fact that they were fighting for total peace. But she had thought that Zechs was actually really going to kill Trieze, when Zechs (I think) really had no intention of doing such a thing. She was surprised and sad when Trieze was killed in battle, and I think Zechs was a bit sad too, but didn't show it. So Dorothy was also thinking on the right track. None of the Gundam pilots understood this, but Quatre was close. In the duel with Dorothy, she told him that he should of staged a war like Mr. Milliardo. I think besides Heero, only Quatre understood. The other pilots saw Zechs as a evil person... I have trouble watching the last episodes because of this.

Anyway, that's my little essay on Zechs at the end of the series. Hope this makes things a little easier for you to understand the series. Please, if you have any comments, send it to Nataku@saiyan.com. ^_^
