Call Hating
Summary: Mrs. Wakeman modifies Jenny's programming so she can't hang up on her mom.
Storyboard: Ed Baker
Directed: Tim Walker,
Rob Renzetti
Featuring Jason Marsden as the new kid
Villian: Giant gelatin/muck monster.
Moral: Every mom is a pest and every phone has a plug.
Stuff I Noticed:
*The toddler playing in the mud at the beginning was Gerald from I Was a Preschool Dropout.
*When Jenny is shopping for shoes, in the background it says Zapato's Shoes. Zapato is Spanish for shoe.
*At the CD store, we see, once again, Lil' Rover and Sync'N signs. Take offs of Lil' Bow Wow and N'Sync. Also at the CD store, there are signs that say $.99. Ninety nine cents is pretty cheap for a CD, don't you think? The cash register says Music Non-Stop.
*The music Jenny is listening to at the CD store is first heard in Tradeshow Showdown.
*Mrs. Wakeman says 'You can find them in any common household fire extinguisher.' The fire extinguisher isn't exactly a common household item if you ask me.
My Rating and Review:
The first time I saw this episode, I didn't consider it anything imparticularly good. But as I kept watching it, it really grew on me. A pretty good episode, the script was fantastic. It was really funny and some great character use as well. The concept was pretty good, and the writers carried it out very well. But... dang inconsistency. I thought Mrs. Wakeman and Jenny had gotten really close mother/daughter wise and they excepted the embarassment in Tradeshow Showdown. But the 'oh, stop embarassing me' thing keeps popping up. I guess I don't mind inconsistent characterization if it's needed to carry out an episode like this. This was a really good episode, probably one of the better ones. The script was incredible, but maybe it was too incredible. I was sort of hoping MLaaTR wouldn't have that white-out, one-liner kind of humor. I suppose that kind of humor can be good, if you like that sort of thing. But I'm not such a big fan of this. So while most would give this episode an A+, I'm just sticking with a B+.
