Daydream Believer
Summary: Brad and Tuck tell Jenny about dreams, and she decides she wants to have one. So Mrs. Wakeman makes her a dream chip that sends her into dream mode at night, but when Jenny figures out she can activate it during the day, it gets stuck and she doesn't know what's happening.
Storyboard: Stephen Sandoval, Chris Mitchell
Directed:
John Fountain, Rob Renzetti
Featuring Quinton Flynn as Mr. Smelhaus
Villian: Jenny (?)
Moral: You know, I think there is one but I can't put my finger on it.
Stuff I Noticed:
*This episode, along with This Time with Feeling, premiered on my birthday.
*The title is a mentioning of a song by the Monkees
*The beginning of this episode takes place on a Tuesday.
*Mrs. Wakeman says 'What do androids of? Electric sheep?' this is reference to a book written by Philip K. Dick titled 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'.
*Mr. Smelhaus says that they will be discussing the krakken, but in Ear No Evil he was a Language Arts teacher and while Jenny is describing her dream, you can see math problems on the wall in the background.
*The first time, when Jenny goes into dream mode at night, she stays asleep and her eyes look like they always do. Every time after that, her eyes turn into blue ovals and she 'mimes out' her dreams in real-life. A bit inconsistent if you ask me.
*Okay ... (all the young children out there, please discontinue reading) Did anyone else think that Jenny sounded a bit like an alcoholic? 'I can quit any time I want' and 'It's perfectly healthy and normal' and Brad saying 'You lose touch with reality pretty quickly'. Heh heh.
*After the electrical wires hit Jenny's head, you see her dream chip and it's switched to off at first. This is a blooper because she had just been in dream mode.
*The deli Jenny crashes into is called Meat's 4 you.
*There's a sign inside the deli that says Pork Sale. Frederator cartoons have a lot of meat jokes, eh?
*Jenny's dreams resemble different drawing styles. When she was walking home, it looked like Ub Iwerks and Fleirscher Studio's creation. Ub Iwerks is the company that created the Mickey Mouse cartoons. The long one at the end looked like Dr.Seuss' books.
My Rating and Review:
If there was one word to describe this episode, that word would be cute. The drawings were adorable. I loved the different styles in her dreams, that was a very creative idea. Animation-wise this was probably one of the best episodes, but it really shouldn't have preceded This Time with Feeling. That dragged down it's worth because the overall story repeated itself. But, then again, what did we expect? I mean, it is on Nickelodeon afterall. Daydream Believer gets B-. It was only slightly irritating.
