"Joyce"

She is the crinkle in my mother's eyes
The bustling breeze on blistering days
She, this love, is sunlight peeking through clouds
A rustling leaf in autumn;
Her fall as graceful as her face
She is my sister's toes, her hands,
Smooth, but hard with the slightest of femininity
She is the tears you shed when you're overjoyed
A daffodil
She, this astonishment, is that rainbow in discarded oil,
Amazing minds of ascending children
She is my own eyes amazed
My cat; rainstorms thundering, pounding, drumming ritualistic ballads upon my roof, these walls; a smile from a boy; good grades; single four leaf clover when I'm down
She, this travelling entity;
Vanished bruises on a neck;
Descending entity;
The first star you realize;
She, love;
Waiting
For us, too
But not the way she did, no
We will not depart as she
Swollen blacks and blues shall not litter our skin;
No scars of emotional abuse will soil our souls;
Our hearts in solid, thick, warm pieces, we will leave in peace
And peach bottles, and pear cans, and boarding passes will forever bind together,
And those smile lines will grace our faces
And she will wait
Yes, shining somewhere in our lives, she waits
A teddy bear; soft fabric carressing my lips; dreamful naps
She will wait
And when the day finally comes
When those crinkled eyes no longer stream rivers of salt
And those hard digits uncurl their furious fists
And I finally rest my eyes, unstraining, worry-free, and free above all
Love will be upon us
And she'll wait no more.
