Welcome to the MoonShadows Wolf Pack Pack Hunts and Information.

Wolves are not very successful in hunts! Normally only 30% of their hunts are fruitful and this fact should be taken into consideration before any hunt goes under way.

PICKING UP THE SCENT

Step one of a hunt is sniffing out and locating the prey. Wolves have a strong sense of smell and can locate game from miles away. Once they catch the scent of wild game they begin to stalk their prey.

STALKING THE PERY

Once the wolves get the scent of the prey they begin to stalk. Stalking prey takes a lot of skill and care. Wolves lower themselves as close as they can to the ground to make for a better ambush. Sneaking up on the prey takes a lot of time and skill as well. A wolf must be in tune with every element from the wind to sound. Once they find the prey they have stalked they begin to ambush and attack it.

ATTACKING THE PREY

Most wolves will attack in a pack, so each wolf will have a role. Once the prey is singled out (if the prey animal is in a group with others of its kind) they will chase the animal running it out to make it tired then attack one at a time normally at the flank, back, neck or nose. Wolves always try to avoid the animal’s legs for being kick is by a larger struggling animal is very damaging to a wolf’s body and sometimes can be fatal.

KILLING THE PREY

Once the animal is brought down, the wolves will hold onto their places and wait until the animal dies of stress, wounds or drowning if it made the fatal mistake of going into the water. Once the animal dies then they begin to feast.

THE FEAST AND AFTERWARDS

Wolves normally howl after a kill before eating with the Alphas always eat first who normally tear of chucks of meat to be reserve for hungry pups and juveniles unable to hunt back at the clearing. The Beta wolf and other high ranking wolves eat next. Then pack members and if any is left the Omega wolf and/or lone wolves. After a hunt meat is brought back to the clearing for the others who stayed behind to care for the pup and juveniles and the pups and juveniles themselves. A hunt is very tiring and it’s not uncommon for the entire pack to take a long nap after a hunt.
