The Irish Disaster |
It was 1846 in Ireland, as you wake up, hoping that it will be a normal day, you found out that all the potatoes your family had grown all died. Your family had gotten poor, and just like the other Irish, you are sleeping on the streets, so you wanted to immigrate to America. It is not an impossible thing to do, and you heard about what they called the "perfect America." It is not impossible, because many Irish have immigrated to America. You knew you would die eventually in Ireland, so you took the risk and came to America. |

It is a big risk to come to America, because if the immigration officers find out anything bad about you, they will kick you out, and if that happens, you wasted all your money for ship tickets. However, if you don't come to America, you will get diseases and sickness and die off in Ireland, so it is die in Ireland or take the risk to come to America. Many people chose to come to America, since they heard that it is perfect. |

The main source of Ireland was potatoes, every farmer plants potatoes, but they all got broke when the potato famine came. |

One of the reasons they wanted to come to America was the potato famine. It killed all the potatoes in Ireland, and made many Irish citizens/farmers poor and starve, so they all trying to come to America. |

They tried to immigrate to America; they thought America would be a better place to live in than Ireland. However, after they come, they found out it is really not good. They decided to come to America because they don't want to die in Ireland, and they wanted to get more money and better lives in America. However, when they come to America they found out that it is not what you heard about, what all the promises about freedom. None of those of what you have heard happened; it is not much better than lives in Ireland. Ellis Island will be where you are going to get ask questions about why you would want to come to America. After that, mostly people won't have enough money to get to other places, so they stayed in New York City, but NYC was a crowed place. |

About 40 percent of all immigrants came from Ireland, so every 4 out of 10 people you see on the street is Irish. Around 1800s, it is when the Irish farmers depended on potatoes for food and money. However, between 1845 and 1854, a disaster and what you call it disease happened. By 1855, over 1 million of peasants and farmers had died from the potatoes famine. So increasingly Irish Immigrated to America. |

The history of the Irish immigration to America is not really a fairy tale for poor immigrants finding success and freedom in the new land. Just like the other immigrants, they are forced to battle back against prejudice and economic reasons to get themselves richer for their new home. |
From the period of time for their earliest immigration to America, the Irish found a land with both promise and prejudice. They decided fight for their rights and better conditions matched the American spirit of freedom and independence. |
