What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Florida? Vacation? Spring Break? Maybe even music? That's right you heard me right. Music. This article is about the begining of the website known as Florida Scene. It all started in the bedroom of Dan Gould (North Star Inc. Photographer) when him and JT Curry (North Star Inc. Founder) decided upon making a website that would cover not just local bands in they're little town of Palm Coast, and certaintly not just the little place known as Flagler County, but the entire state of Florida! The idea came about when Dan had to do a project for his HTML college course where he had to make a website in entirely HTML code. At the same time JT was learning HTML code as well so they would help each other out with problems they were having while making websites. At the current time JT was focusing on his website North Star Inc. and Dan was working on a website to cover local bands in Palm Coast. After changing his mind on what he wanted to do for his project the idea for bands in Palm Coast deminished. As time went by Dan and JT hung out and finally decided to do the website together that Dan originally was going to use as his project. But it soon came to their attention that doing bands that just resided in Palm Coast just wasnt enough, and that was when the idea for Florida Scene was born. They decided (as stated earlier) that they would cover bands all over Florida. Site construction then began on the first day of their spring break. Now normally on a High Schooler and Collegians spring break they can be found running around playing sports, hanging with friends, going to the beach, but instead these two young men were hard at work all week long doing everything they could to get the site up and running. To this date Florida Scene has 35 bands up on their website, and have MANY more on the way. If you're reading this right now and you happen to be in a band you can get in contact with the makers of the Florida Scene website by looking on the contacts page of the Florida Scene website. So next time you go to a local show and see a couple guys handing out flyers with a palm tree on them, you'll know who they are. They are Florida Scene. Pe@ce

Spring Break: Daytona Style

Beer, babes, bikini’s, kegs, wet t-shirt contests, beaches, parties...all of these things and more represent spring break in Daytona Beach, Fl. So what really goes down on the world most famous beach? Ask the locals, because the breakers will have been too drunk to remember. The main attraction, of course, is the beach and the hotels on it. Many hotels and local vendors host things like wet t-shirt contests, bikini contests beer-drinking contests, etc. This year’s spring break is probably the rowdiest we’ve seen in a while, and the city is starting to crack down. 30+ people were already arrested for underage drinking, 30+ people for open container violations, and 10+ for exposure. More people are arrested everyday. Some of the more popular hotels include the Desert Inn and the Adams Mark Hotel. The owner of the Desert Inn had been arrested at least twice for code violations. Daytona hotels really rake in the money during spring break. We’ve seen a lot of patriotic Canadian breakers on the beaches this year. Many Canadians come wearing their maple-leafed bandanas and shirts, and have maple-leafed towels, hats, flags, etc. The long trip from near the top of the top of the continent to the near bottom doesn’t discourage the Canadians. Busses of them come in every day. Well, what more is there to say about spring break? Daytona is a great place to go if you want to party and have a good time. Expect traffic. Have fun, just try not to do anything too illegal...

I woke up suddenly this morning, very calm. I don't know why, I just know that I slept well and that a dream was had. I don't remember much about the dream, I just remember that it was good. Dream interpretations have come a long way since psychologists started analyzing them a long time ago. Most people don't believe that your dreams do mean something. Dreams can be your body's way of telling you that something could be wrong or right. They also can just show that you're stressed, reveal fears, and show your anxiety about upcoming events. Let's say that you have had a dream where a close deceased relative is talking to you in your dream, telling you something weird and irrational like "beware of the bottom of the ocean!" If you have this dream repeatedly, this would show your fear of the ocean and your inner unresolved conflicts relating to your relative's dreams. This is just one interpretation of that dream. Dreams are often scattered and well just plain weird. You've got to think, your brain is going through thoughts you have so fast that the dream that you think lasted half the night, only lasted about the last 15 minutes of your sleeping period. So the dream is bound to be jumbled up quite badly. Did you know that you don't remember your dream unless you wake up in the middle of those last 15 minutes? Otherwise you might not even know you had a dream. An entire sleep cycle is approximately 2 hours long and it takes about 3 cycles to get to the REM cycle, where you dream. Weird stats huh?

Online Dating: The Next Best Thing, or a False Representation?

Online dating is a very hot topic today. Many people feel as though online dating services such as web sites and messengers are a great way to meet people with similar interests as you. It’s also a great way for pedophiles to coerce young children into giving their personal information. Heh. I guess everything has its pros and cons. Some internet dating services seem to really have it together. You have to take surveys and fill out questionnaires which will help find you perfect match. The service seems to try to make a good match by comparing your results to the results of others members that fit the criteria that you have chosen. You also have to pay... but I guess if it works, then it’s worth it. The downfall to the whole internet dating craze is the unorganized sites and services that allow anyone to talk to anyone else without any knowledge of the communication. Although some chat rooms have monitors, many do not. This type of dating site it probably a haven for people looking to lie and cheat unsuspecting victims. It’s easy for people to lie to someone online. Without a webcam, noone knows what you look like. The people you’re talking to could really be 70+ year old men when they say that they’re hot 18 year olds. Although it can be dangerous, online dating could start a really wonderful relationship between two people that maybe have a problem with going out and meeting people...or maybe just don’t have the time. In short, online dating could be the best thing that ever happened, or a nightmare. Just do it the right way. Be cautious. Be safe. Be aware.

What's the first thing that comes to mind when you see the Roman Numeral 2? That's right fellow readers, the dreaded sequel. At one point in movie history the sequel was something that was anticipated until the very moment when the movie would hit the silver screen at your local movie theatre. But lately the sequel has become a fear to fellow movie goers. My hypothesis on the whole thing is movie directors have lost all sense of imagination and rely almost religiously on the technology of special effects! Now I admit its nice to see a movie with some really awesome special effects but they've pushed it so far as to now you dont even get a decent story line. Now I'm sure your all asking yourself... where did it all begin? Well I've been doing alot of thinking since our last news update and I've come to the conclusion that The Matrix is the virus that spread through out movie makers everywhere. The last good sequel that I could recall seeing was Terminator 2, and that was a long, long, time ago. Any movie sequel that they've made lately.. or hell any movie for that matter have been solely based off of they're special effects and not the storyline iteslf. The only recent movies that have focused more on they're storyline more than they're special effects are in fact the movies that are based off old or recent books. Sadly those are still limited to a few. So in closing I'd just like to tell you all to.. sit down... watch a good movie (preferably from back in the late 80's early 90's) and cherish the few moments of good movies we have left in life.

Coheed and Cambria... most likely one of North Star's greatest topics to ever grace the pages. Just recently on March 2nd me and some friends attended a Coheed and Cambria concert. I was so impressed I nearly pissed myself, and believe it or not this was not my first time seeing them. I've only seen them once before but from they're screaming guitar riffs and they're heavy bass there's no beating them. The history of this great band I have not been able to find but they were once known as Shabutie which was they're band name before actually being signed onto a record label. The band bases all of they're songs off of a story that the lead singer Claudio Sanchez (seen above) is writing. The story itself is expected to come out in December in pieces as a comic book. After all of the pieces of the story have been made and released in comic forms all the comics will be brought together into one graphic novel. So far the band has put out two CD's. The first CD the band released was Second Stage Turbine Blade which was released March 12, 2002 and then they're most recent CD In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 which was released October 7, 2003. There's no telling when the next album will be out but you can guarantee I'll be at the front of that line to the record store to buy that album. So all and all I guess this article of the North Star page isn’t the greatest but we just all here wanted to tell you mainly that they fucking rock and you should go check them out. You can see they're website here: http://www.coheedandcambria.com hope ya enjoyed the insight guys. See ya!

Alright topic number two for the News section. Okay now don’t tell me you didn’t see it coming... as you can tell this topic is about cell phones. Now to be totally honest I like cell phones, as a matter of fact I own one and use it as much as I can. But I do think that this has added problems to society such as proving the theory that people that cant drive can suck even more at it. Take your bad driver and add in a cellular phone and you have instant bad driving. Other things that cell phones have brought to our civilization that's not for the better is none other than stress. How many of you have found yourselves walking around in circles trying to find that one place in your area where you can get a signal on your phone? I know I have countless times and even after replacing my phone after realizing it had a defect to it, I STILL have problems. Another thing that has come to my attention that the dreaded hell phone has brought to us is the fact that the phone itself gives out such a great amount of radioactivity (no I'm not kidding) that if it is used too much it could rupture your ear drum or something to that effect to where you're hearing can be seriously hurt. Not to my surprise cell phone companies have managed to make profit off of your suffering as well by putting out something on the market that will block the amount of radio active frequency's coming from the phone so not to unintentionally burst a blood vessel in your ear while oh lets say talking to your long lost brother for hours on end on the phone. So in conclusion... cell phones are evil and should all break into millions of pieces. Although with our luck our cell phone providers would not claim responsibility for the damages done to our phones and continue charging us monthly for them. Piece our kids. See you next time.

Behold, North Star's first topic to be in the stuff page, the one and only Howard Stern: The King of All Media. I couldn’t have thought for a better person to put in as our first. Sadly his appearance on the page is not that of a good one. As of yesterday as to reading my friend John's journal I came to discover that Howard Stern was removed from the airwaves yesterday. Now it has come to my attention that he has not been taken off air from ALL radio stations and TV stations, but he has been in fact cut off from us here in the Palm Coast area. We all here at North Star feel that an injustice has been passed here and we all feel Howard should be back on air. The station which he hails from (Real Radio 104.1) has been known over the years for they're raunchy, crude, dirty, and flat out disgusting topics that they talk about on air. Not all of the DJ's of the station do but out of the few that did Howard Stern was one of them, and was well known for it. His lack of fear to speak his mind on the air and his unique way of explaining sex acts on the radio or on TV has finally come back to bite him in the butt. Now not to say that I think its wrong but in a way you did see it coming since they've been warned about they're language before on air. But to be effected as much as to be kicked from 6 radio stations I think myself is pushing it. While listening to 104.1 last night I was listening to The Drew Show and he brought up a very good point. If you don’t like what your hearing, change the station. Many listeners called in last night protesting against Stern's expulsion from the six stations, and some even admitted that if they found something offensive that he said they'd simply CHANGE the STATION and then resume listening later. Another good point that was brought up is that all those groups that are for freedom of speech, well it'd be a good idea for you to come out and say something now. That's all I have to say for now on the subject if anyone has any comments on this topic please e-mail us at xnorthstarherox@yahoo.com Thank you
