３歲後就沒看過爸爸的方皓玟，儼然成了一家之主，除了是家中的經濟支柱，由於跟媽媽相差18歲，跟妹妹差３歲，方皓玟也是家中發號施令的人，還會管晚歸的媽媽跟妹妹！

媽媽喜歡打麻將、妹妹跟男友約會，都被方皓玟規定得在12點以前回家，方皓玟說：「我媽媽是射手座，愛自由管不得，所以我就會耍些小手段，打電話跟她說我想她，怕一個人在家，在沙發上睡覺等她，讓她早歸。小時候我跟妹妹四處住寄養家庭，12歲就會燒飯洗衣做家事，所以我媽對我很放心。」

出道時，方皓玟不喜歡對大家表露自己是單親家庭的事實，也讓大家被她甜美的外表給「騙」了，以為她是象牙塔裡的小公主。「我爸很花心，在我３歲時就拋家棄子，此後我沒看過他，所以我交男友，條件一定要是單眼皮、不帥、身高180、不吃喝嫖賭、不夜歸的誠實可靠好男友，因為帥哥太容易被別人看中。」
