Working conditons

Different types of vets have a tottally different working atmosphere. Here 2 types for you to choose from:

Indoors --may be stressful!

Veterinarians in small animal practices work in clean, well-lit offices. In many cases they own the clinic in which they work, or they may work as employees or in a partnership in a clinic. Sometimes these facilities can be noisy. Veterinarians usually work 40 to 50 hours per week and often adjust their hours to the clients' needs, which may include work on weekends or in the evening.

Out into the fields

Veterinarians in large animal practices spend a substantial amount of time outdoors in all kinds of weather. They may drive well-equipped mobile clinic vans for long distances to visit farms and ranches to treat sick animals or to make regular calls. Quite often they work more than 50 hours a week and are required to work nights and weekends to answer emergency calls. Veterinarians may be exposed to infectious diseases and are in danger of being kicked, bitten and scratched by animals.
