Someday the Transit Bus

This is Someday, my brother's GM RTS transit bus.  Busprowler (my brother) bought her on October 13, 2001 at the Tampa Machinery auction.  It must have been his lucky day.

My brother's dream was to have a transit bus of his very own.  His avid interest in mass transit evolved from a hobby to a well-paying and fulfilling job with the county.  When he started, he drove the RTS buses made by GM.  They hold a special place in his bus-loving heart.

My brother saw her in October of 1999 when he visited Lakeland, FL  with the Motor Bus Society.  That was when he first laid eyes on her.  Little did he know that two years later she would make his dream of owning a transit bus come true .

Why Someday?    Well, my niece named her by saying, "We're going to have a bus someday!" over and over again.  Also, my brother  knew that "someday" his dream would come true.  He worked tons of overtime to get this beauty of a bus and the thought of "someday" having his own bus really inspired him when things got to be a little too much.

I now have my very own reason for calling her Someday:  Someday my brother will teach me how to drive her!

She originally came from the Transit Agency of Chapel Hill, N.C. She was then refurbished and bought by Lakeland Area Transit, also known as The Citrus Connection.

Someday made the 320 mile trip from Tampa to Princeton, FL with no problems.  She's a real charmer, this bus.

At the heart of Someday is a Detroit Diesel 6V92 TA. The engine was rebuilt in December of 1995.  What a thrill it is to crank up that engine, let me tell you!

She has 369,000 miles on the frame, driven by an Allison V730 tranny.

She is 35 ft. x 96 in. wide and has a Trane A/C unit that keeps everyone comfortable.

She runs like a charm and doesn’t smoke.

Someday (as in one day) Busprowler will take care of all that fruit.  As much as he loves his bus, all that fruit is taking it's toll!

Someday has made us feel very special.  We're the only ones in our neighborhood (and probably in the entire county) with a 35 ft. bus parked alongside our house.  There is nothing like looking out your window and seeing a 35 ft. city bus parked there.  Makes life that much more interesting.

A handsome bus indeed!

So much for storing her in the garage...
