This is a small page about a cool piranah incident that I have pics of.
That my friend is a piranah. A predator fish, it survives on the flesh of other animals, strictly carnivorous (except when they take a bite out of the plastic plants in their aquarium). | ![]() |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Before: Poor skinny, little, hungry piranah who hasn't eaten in like 2-3 weeks.
2pm: I drive to Bogie's pet supply and buy 12 feeder fish to feed my piranahs. 2:30pm: The feeders take their last breath of safe air/water right before they are dumped into the aquarium with the piranahs. Here is two last breath stories: |

Goldfish Head #1: Found at about 2:45pm, 15 min after they were dumped into the aquarium. The goldfish were way too big for the piranahs to consume in one whole bite so this one was bit off behind the gills. When I took this picture he was actually still breathing! He stayed "alive" for about 30 min untill the remainder living goldfish started picking at him. |
Goldfish Head #2: Found at about 9:50 pm. This head was also still breathing after its body had been eaten by the piranahs. This head had more damage to it, it wasn't a clean bite like Head #1; it was equally cool though, maybe a little more. In this head i could see the actual gills inside, and I could see various things in the opening like the esophagus. It was cool. This head only lasted about 10 min. |

After: Big, fat, bloated piranah whom (along with his 3 other piranah friends) has conumed 9 goldfish in about 8 hours. (goldfish that are 1/3 their size none-the-less)

Thats my aquarium. It's a 50 gallon Eclipse filter combo, retail $500. It has two Eclipse filter/light/hood combos on each side, is a 50 gallon Island tank made especially to hold the eclipse hoods, and has an Island "Malibu" stand. The aquarium is a special order so you won't find it on the floor of you're local pet store but you can talk to a manager and have them order one (Eclipses' also come in 3 gallon, 6 gallon, 12 gallon, & 25 gallon). The stand plus aquarium is 4'5" long and 4'2" high. I ended up spending almost $200 to decorate the inside. It has almost 70lbs of gravel in it! I have 4- 6 month old (as of 10/02) piranahs in it. They have not yet achived their full size and are still growing. When I first got them they were babies and were the size of a silver dollar coin. (You can see the size of the piranahs now in relation to the aquarium if you look at the photo closely.)
